Audi owners in here!

The cam follower is only £25 and a five minute job to fit. Better safe than sorry for so little to pay. Perhaps a much less common problem is the seal in the high pressure duel pump goes.

I highly doubt you would get a genuine K03 turbo for £300 but probably the parts to rebuild one. It isn't that hard to rebuild one but access to the turbo isn't the best.

A3's are known to have pretty weak wheel bearings. I've had to replace two of mine so fair.

A few folk on mk5golfgti.co.uk have struggled to get £100-150 for second hand ko3 turbos most go unsold, as they don't fail that often nobody wants them.

It was the same with the old K03 in the 1.8T. There were worth very little, as they almost never failed. The only reason they were usually for sale was because someone had upgraded to the k03s. They were a bit more expensive though (the k03s), as they were such an easy swap for the extra 20-30 BHP you could get post map.

I thought the early 2.0T FSI's had a K03? Is it a K03S? (or something else?)

The 1.8T originally came out with a KO3 but was upgraded to a KO3s a few years in the engine run to allow an output of 180bhp over 150bhp (Seat/VW did push the K03 to 180bhp briefly but it was pretty much maxed out). It was an easy swap to put a KO3s turbo on the older engines allowing an extra 30bhp over the KO3 from a remap so the K03s did command a premium.

They are called KO3 on the TFSI but it can run the same boost as the KO3s from the 1.8T, with the bigger engine along with a better manifold and downpipe design it can run 250-260bhp remapped where the 1.8T would be around 230bhp.

As they never had any other models of KO3 for the TFSI the only easy upgrade option is to fit a KO4 turbo off the ED30/S3/Cupra to give an output of around 300bhp, even K04 turbos don't go for that much second hand now as most buyers would now just buy an ED30/S3/Cupra rather than pay to swap a KO4 onto a KO3 engine.

Thanks. :)

So the KO3 on the 2.0T isn't the same as the KO3 on the 1.8T, despite sharing the name?

No, they have codes after them which I do not know... For instance the 1.8T 8L S3 is a K04, the 2.0tfsi in S3 form is also a K04. The old Astra VXR also uses a K04, they just have slight code differences such as K04-023 etc. I'd imagine the K03 is the same anyway!

Although the K04-001 was a similarly direct fit to a k03'd engine in the 1.8T, but it wasn't nearly as powerful as the proper K04's in the S3/LCR. But then the S3/LCR K04's required downpipes and oil lines and stuff to be swapped over too with the conversion.

The k04 swap in the mk5 platform is similar in that it isn't a direct swap. But the results are impressive when done.

OK thanks. :)

Reasonably determined to get one of these now, but I might save a little longer so that I can get one with slightly lower mileage. We shall see...If one with high mileage but good kit and a new cam-belt kit and other such refreshed parts comes up, I may not resist it... :p

The only other way I can get a quick car which I can afford to insure is if I get something like a Fiesta ST or a Cooper S or a Corsa VXR/SRI etc, and none of those cars really do it for me if I'm honest... They are the same size as what I have, and they look "cheap".

The Polo 9N3 GTI looks less cheap, but I'm not sure if another Polo is what I want either...

I need pads and discs all round.
Local garage wants £620 for Brembo discs, Ferrodo pads, brake fluid and wear sensors.
Since when do you have to replace the sensors when you replace the pads?

Either way, it seems a bit steep in my eyes. Any thoughts?

The wear sensor is a block that wears down like a resistor I think so it gives a percentage read out of the pad wear.

Had to do just front discs and pads on my brothers RS3 last week and it cost £640 for OEM parts but I fit them for him to save a few hundred that they wanted!

Had my Audi for about 9 months now. She goes well with 440bhp.

Done three 'ring trips so far this year, with one more planned for the first week in November. Really really like this car in so many ways.

Seen you on RS246, car looks good I prefer the avants. I wish people would stop posting RS4 pictures... Makes me want one even more!

Thanks and yep, I prefer them too - I've 4 large dogs so although they can't all fit in at once, it's certainly easier with an estate car :)

And you should get one - they're awesome (if financially draining!).

Those plates :(

Don't worry. When I need approval from a random stranger on the internet, you'll be the very first person I PM :D

Had my first session at R Tech yesterday which was for the DSG map.

My map now pretty much sits like this;

Launch control RPM set to 3900 rpm (60% throttle gives 3200)
Torque limit raised to ~600nm
Increased gear change speed ~35% (I think!)
No kickdown in 'M'
6 speed gear change has been amended so it doesn't drop into 6th too early.
'S' mode is now basically my quarter mile mode.

Back for my second session in just under two weeks time, need to get a Rev G DV and the RS4 valve fitted before then to get optimum power!

Picked this up yesterday. Only a 1.6 Diesel Sport but better than the Corsa I had before.

I know I'll get crap for white but I think it looks smart. Red and black were the colour of previous cars I'd drove so.
