Audi owners in here!

Exactly what Tinders is saying, if the controls are not on the flat section of the centre console, next to the gear leaver, then it's not MMI, 2G, 3G or 3G+.

Controls on the dash itself (above the climate, below the display) are part of the radio system, it's not MMI, it's not even MOST BUS based. The fact that you even mention "Concert" suggests to me that it's not MMI and you are going to confirm the controls are above the climate control.

above the heater... I think I got confused... It might not be anything but the basic setup on the CAN-bus; Audi do not make it that easy to find I must say...

MMI 3g doesn't have to have sat nav, but it does appear to be by the gearstick where as mine is not...

My 2.0 TDI 170ps (CAH) was idling around 900rpm for some reason today. Turned the engine off and on and it went away. Not the first time. I know that if the clutch is depressed then it's the antistall, but this was sitting at the lights in neutral :/

Also a funny fluttering sound on over-run when I revved it sitting at the lights. Could be wastegate but I hadn't heard it before.
Also a funny noise coming from what looks like the crank pulley. I think I'll book it in for a service a few k early and see what they find.

Ok :-)

So to rephrase;

What is the best way to get iPOD/USB and Bluetooth connectivity in to the Audi Concert system so it acts seamlessly with the interface (i.e. phone access comes through the tel button, ipod / usb comes in the media button.

I wanted to compare an A6 to the 5 series, so have had this over the weekend:

7FquJUr.jpg

It's an A6 Avant S Line Black Edition (190 bhp). Firstly, what a fabulous looking car, one of the best around, and I really like the Black Edition stuff. I'd have to say the 5 series shades it in most areas (being very picky), but it's hard to choose between them. Would come down to cost and spec differences. The 20" Black Edition wheels just look massive!

The engine can pull it along well once it starts moving, but it takes a bit to get going which is logical as it's pretty heavy. The most surprising thing was that it's actually front wheel drive (as it wasn't Quattro). Felt fine but that's an interesting choice. Tyres are 255's all-round.

Interior is good, Valcona leather was superb (better than BMW's standard leather), and being able to have the maps and stuff between the clocks is good, but that's an option as part of the Tech pack I think. Audi steering wheels seem very thin?!

Great car.

In theory your best bet is still an AMI and Bluetooth retrofit. No idea how much it's going to cost out there in NZ, but it's not going to be cheap to do. You'll need a CAN-based AMI unit from a B8, the wiring harness, and potentially, a glovebox suitable to mount the unit in. I don't think you'll need any coding for this, but I've never done a CAN-III based retrofit.

As for bluetooth, you'll need to get a bluetooth module, antenna, harnesses, microphones, and then coding.

Sadly though unless you opt for a BiTDI you cannot have a good gearbox :(

Yes it was the 7 speed auto. It didn't seem bad but not as good as the ZF8 on the 5 series. The engine prices are interesting, the base 3.0 TDI is only 218bhp but costs about 5 grand more than the 190bhp 2 litre. And the BiTDI is over £53k before you even start on options...! The S6 Avant for comparison is £58k, and has better standard spec too, but only comes with the 7 speed. Doesn't seem to make a lot of sense, why only offer the 8 speed with one engine...

I'm not sure if it was the wheels being 20" vs 19", or that it's estate vs saloon, but the 5 series seemed to have far less road noise.

I also took a test drive of the A6 before buying my 5 series. I will admit, the A6 has the 5 series on exterior looks. But that is about where it stopped for me (this was back in late 2013). After that, whilst not a huge amount in it, I found the 5 series to be a bit better on everything else.

The 2.0 TDI in the A6 isn't even available in Quattro. I guess they think nowadays that engine isn't man enough for such a big, heavy car. I'd probably agree to some extent.

I don't get the obsession with Quattro for most people and in underpowered engine choices. With 400bhp? I get it. In Scotland? I get it. Everywhere else? It's annoying if its anything like XDrive - it sapped so much power from the 420d I had it was just a nuisance and appeared to serve no useful purpose.

Funnily enough, i got a A6 S line loner yesterday aswell.

Nice car, infact everything is nice apart from the engine, which feels slower than the Skoda Superb i tried with the same lump.

Its nice inside, but as fox has stated before, the infotainment seems a bit dated. Mines got the optional tech pack, which adds 8 inch screen and a 7 inch screen in the instrument binnacle, its lovely but a ridiculous 1600 sheets. I'll be giving it a miss, as i fancy something different now after spending 4 years in the A4, this generation of A6 offers me nothing interesting.

Oh and i think the cup holders are in a stupid position.

Problem is you drop down to a FWD car!

I've always thought it odd to offer a low powered 3.0 TDI non Quattro as well as the 3.0 TDI 272PS and 320PS 3.0 BiTDI both with Quattro. Given the 3.0 TDI non Quattro is front wheel drive like the 2.0 that's not the nicest drive even with the power limited. The 3.0 218bhp does benefit from better power/torque curves though so better in practice than the figure suggests compared to the 2.0 TDI for people that don't mind the front wheel drive.

...why only offer the 8 speed with one engine...

It's the only engine that the S-Tronic DL-501 cannot handle the torque (BHP is fine hence the use on the S6). Audi just seem to like DSGs, and compared to the awful CVT Multi-tronic which was dropped from the A6 at the facelift is a actually a fairly good box, just not as wafty as the ZF 8HP.

I do like having proper permanent 4WD in a 250+ bhp automatic car though (not these 2WD most of the time systems). There's something lazy about being able to boot it off the line with any amount of throttle and its just goes even on the wettest or greasiest of roads!

As an S3 owner I can tell you now that the 1/10th of second for it to switch to AWD does not stop you doing this and you would never know it was not permanent AWD

I think his comments would be more valid for first and second generation haldex. The newer stuff is crazily good.

Very nice - the colour looks a bit off but that probably just the exposure - is this the plus version?

It was begin detailed at the time so it has a very orange tinge in pictures for some reason, it's just the standard verson the plus version is pretty rare in the UK.

Plus version only has +20hp and a different front grill :)
