Audi owners in here!

When you see what Audi can do when they put their mind to it, it makes it even more criminal that they have produced vastly turgid, boring, badly set up and driving cars for so long. I hope they get this TT right as it has the potential to be special...all they need to do is put the engine where it is in a Cayman :)

New owner, reporting in!

2005 Quattro Sport. 800 came in, reputedly there's only 650 left. Not why I bought it, mind - I drove one a few years back and loved it, so I didn't have to think too hard when this one popped up.

Needs some cosmetics (wheels, roof rails, some interior trim - i.e. the wheel), and a little TLC elsewhere, but it's all there! Just going to titivate it, uprate it a little and enjoy. It comes home on Friday so I'm looking forward to tearing into it and giving it a proper clean then seeing where we stand.

Alas, it doesn't have the standard-fit Pole Positions (it has the optional heated leather/Alcantara seats) but having driven one with those, they won't be hugely missed. I did find them very cool but they were a bit of a faff if you were using it regularly. Not very graceful when it comes to getting in and out...

One thing I didn't know was that the QS was the only iteration of the Mk1 TT that was built in Germany (by quattro GmbH) - the rest were made in Hungary. In fact, I think every other TT made since has been built in Hungary, including the latest RS.

They only fog up properly in the rear, probably because I have the sunblinds in. AC blows nice and cold so I don't think it's low on gas. Filters have been changed in service recently.
The front ones have a tiny patch near the mirror, although I often confuse the dirty windows in that area for misted up windows :o

My main gripe is that it doesn't blow hot air at you, even if you set the middle vents to blow HOT air through the on-board settings, unlike BMWs with the scroll wheel. It's either nothing or cold

Reset flap motors in vagcom, if that doesn't work then it will be that the movement arm will have popped off, it happens on the skoda Superb.

Oh the main dealers charge a fortune, BMW want similar money for what they call 'KDS alignment'.

Find somewhere with Hunter alignment kit and a decent price would be as above.

The dealers do it properly by weighting the car to factory tolerances etc before doing the alignment but then so does a decent independent place.

I was £100 for my KDS Alignment from a BMW dealership in Fife. The dealer I bought the car from, my local dealer, were asking closer to the £200 you mentioned.

I had a mate who used to work at Kwik Fit, and he was doing full Hunter Alignment, with properly weighted cars, for around £40. That was a "mates rates" sort of affair, done after-hours, as part of a local car forum sort of thing, initially, but then started offering it during normal business hours. I had the e46 330i done there.

As a rough guide; I recently paid £130inc VAT for a 4 wheel alignment requiring quite a lot of a adjustment, on a "Hunter Pro-Align II", at a Land Rover specialist (A smart one, so probably priced on the high side).

I paid 240 quid to have the MX5 done at Centre Gravity but I was paying for an expert in setup, not just a machine and the ability to read a computer. Wasted on most cars I think but worked well on the MX5, vital on the GT3.

Mines heading off to Chris at Centre Gravity in the near future. They cost more than a "simple" hunter alignment but you get a much better end result.

He spent the entire day on the MX5, did nothing but that car and it was there at 9am and not ready till 4pm! You are paying for his time and also the calibration to what you want the car to do, within the constraints of what he can do with the suspension on the car.

The dealership has had my S1 for 2 weeks, and there's still no ETA for the haldex pump that is allegedly being shipped from Germany. Whilst the A4 they've lent me is grand, I had to miss an advanced driving day today so I'm £220 out of pocket.

The service advisor is going to submit a claim to Audi UK for the advanced driving day, but there's no guarantee that it'll be accepted.

Meh. Feeling more than a little annoyed that Audi have had my car for a total of 6 weeks out of the 60 weeks I've owned it.

3.5 weeks later, my S1 is still at the dealership *sigh*

In other news, I think that I am done with hatchbacks. My mountain bike fits inside the B9 A4 just perfectly :) My next car will definitely be an estate.
