Audi owners in here!

Why anyone would prefer a manual over an auto in such a car is beyond me, requested for an auto but for the sake of convenience I accepted what was available there and then as it was only in for a day.

I know im in a minority, but I still prefer manuals, i spent a few months test driving so many different cars, and whilst modern auto's are fantastic, fast changes, smooth and slightly more economical, I just felt more involved and engaged in driving a manual.

I do like the new A4 feels a nicer car inside than the 3 series, but sthat stupid screen lets it down inside :( I wish they had made more different to the B8 though. It will be interesting to see where Audi go with the new A6. I hate the way Audi hardly make any changes to the exterior designs, BMW might make ugly cars, but at least they are making an effort to make significant changes to each generation.

I disagree. Since moving to DSG, I love it.

Some how it stays in the correct gear at all times, whether you're going round a roundabout or corner it really is the perfect gearbox. Going back to a manual gearbox feels so antiquated - though I agree a manual in the right car can be excellent.

I think I will always go for DSG or Auto now.

I thought the same, however after living with DSG for 2+ years then buying a manual and running both cars together i've found myself wanting the DSG for stop / start traffic + motorways and the manual for everything else.

Whilst DSG is technically excellent it does have shortcomings and for country road driving the novelty has slightly worn off, its simply not as engaging to drive (hence why i'm still looking for the right TTS with a manual box).

Then we have the whole question of long term ownership prospects and how likely it is to bankrupt you.

DSG or manual, it's a matter of choice and I am glad we still have so I can save £1500 and not have to have £400 oil change every three years.
I have also driven different versions of the dsg gearbox and find them boring, boring, boring and jerk in stop start traffic and make parking more of a challenge. But hey, as I stated, it's all down to personal preference.

Certainly don't get a DSG if you think it makes parking more difficult. I've used DSG for the past 2 yeas over 4 different brand new cars and can say they are a doddle to park.

Boring is a matter of opinion really.

Nice A4 nas - I pick mine up in October. It will be: 2.0 TFSI quattro S line 252ps 7-speed S tronic

Why would you want to be 'involved and engaged' when driving, say, a 4 cylinder diesel crossover or saloon? It's just not that sort of car - it's strength is in effortlessly transporting you in an efficient manner, not clipping apex's and involving you in the drive.

Manual sports car? Absolutely. if we were discussing the latest Porsche I get the point but to talk about driver involvement and engagement in the context of cars like this seems odd, if either of those things were important to you you wouldn't buy one anywya.

Wow, that interior looks cheap as hell. Why they insist on using that silver plastic..

I much prefer the piano black interior on the A4 but its an added cost option. I personally dislike the centre console which is made out of a textured plastic. The one place I am likely to touch on a regular basis is where I would expect a better quality material.

I know the new A4 has had rave reviews for it's interior but I just didn't take to it and felt it to be poorly thought through (ipad on the dash, aluminimum used in the wrong places, plastic used in the wrong places etc). It only starts to look better once you add on a few optional extras (leather/alcantara seats, piano black inserts, full screen display for the dash etc).

The car doesnt matter to me as such, i need to drive a 'ordinary', that i cant avoid, but i just prefer a manual gearbox in it.

Like I said, I know im in the minority. I can still enjoy driving a 'boring' eurobox.

DSG with radar cruise and auto stop and go in traffic means I can focus on more important things whilst driving; like taking selfies or posting to Facebook :p
