Audi owners in here!

Not sure if this would be the right place to ask, but are there any B7 RS4 owners in here? I test drove one over the weekend and am considering buying one, but wondered how much typical annual servicing costs are, what to look out for etc? Will no doubt be more than my current 330 M Sport, but good to have a rough idea of how much more.

I had one a few years ago and put 100k miles on it. I did an ownership summary and some running reviews back a while. Do a search for threads started by me and it should show up.

Thanks chaps, that's helpful. I had read about the coking issue but didn't realise the DRC was something to look out for as well. Will check out your review Housey.

My heart says a B7 RS4 (have always wanted one, and would be a nice change, and 4WD) but my head is increasingly saying an E92 M3 makes more sense. Can get a newer, lower milage example for the same ~£20k. Think I need to test drive the M3 so I can make a proper comparison. Such a tough decision! :D

Stuff about door not opening by the remote

So, we had the guy out with VAGCOM today, determined that it was a door lock issue and not the controller so that's good. The car is a UK spec but in NZ, so does anyone know what part number the drivers side door lock is?

Also identified that the part number N144 which is part of the Engine Mount (left maybe?) was reporting a fault. We have noticed that when starting the engine it seems to be vibrating like the timings are off, BUT the scan didn't pick up anything on the engine side... could this be vibration caused by a broken engine mount? How serious would this be as I can imagine this won't be a cheap fix if required to be done?

Thanks in advance for thoughts and comments!

Chris

The N144 problem is far more likely to be the solenoid than the actual mount. It was quite a common fault on the B6/7 platform, most people simply ignore it and carry on as normal. Without a known good car to compare it to, I'd not go down the route of changing the engine mount without knowing that it's definitely failed/failing.

The driver's side door lock actuator appears to be very dependent on manufacture date, and if the vehicle had keyless entry or not. Do you happen to know the exact build date? And does it have advanced key?

Ok thanks, yes it is the solenoid (VAGCOM reports it as such), I thought that was part of a declining engine mount, but if it doesn't affect the physical mount itself then I happy. Is that an easy fix?

This is from the order forms for the car: Delivery date: 03.08.2009 but no build date from what I can tell...

Well, the cut off for part number change is 02/11/2009, so I'd imagine it's this part number:

8J2 837 016 A

Thank you very much!

Does anybody know who makes the OEM locks? I've found one on Ebay but I'm also hunting in other places for a new part without resorting to Audi NZ as that will be incredibly expensive!

Also! What sites do people use to find the right part numbers? The internet is a confusing place...

Can anyone give any advice/opinion on the durability of Audi half leather / alcantara seats compared to the all leather variety please?

Extremely durable but I guess it depends how well you look after it. I like the leather too but I think the alcantara is a little more practical/easy to keep looking new.

My old TT at near 60k miles with alcantara/leather still looked good as new (apart for a bit of creasing on the bolsters...which is too be expected). Didn't really take many pics of the seats but this one probably shows how well they look after 50k miles:

Uncomfy as hell, sore back and ass on a long trip.

Went from full leather to half alcantara on the same S line seats and there's a difference in comfort. Wouldn't choose again.

They look brand new though after 60k miles.

Depends what car he is looking at though.

The new style seats in the mk3 TT are excellent and much more comfortable than the old style. I agree the old style seats are quite stiff.

Ive got the full leather in my TDIe A4, not even convinced they are leather TBF, but they have held up well over 94k of my fat behind getting in and out of them.

My biggest issue is not with the comfort, but more the ofset pedal layout. I prefer the S line or sport seats for the extra support they offer.

Who else here has a A4 B8 TDIe? any chance I can get a picture of the spare wheel well. Im contemplating ditching the spare wheel but i want to see what it looks like without etc.

I've got one, I can't take a photo until tonight, though I'm confused that you say you are ditching the spare wheel, yet have a TDIe

The TDIe models didn't have spare wheels to begin with, as the battery takes up the majority of the wheel well (for stop-start purposes). My car has the battery, tools, tyre-weld and compressor in the wheel well, in a black polystyrene "tidy", which has a moulded plastic lid, and a long screw down "nut" which doubles as a support for the boot floor.

If no-one has already sourced a picture before this evening I'll post one up.

EDIT: This is identical to my wheel well, and this is a good thread indicating the opposite to what you propose (adding the space-saver) http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/space-saver-for-tdie-what-part-numbers-please.176625/

They are "real" leather, but they aren't the most supple, they are a rougher, thicker cut, which was chosen for longevity rather than look or feel. As a result they do hold up well and are pretty resilient, but don't offer the same "give" that softer (like nappa) leather gives.

Batteries in wheel wells are such a silly idea. It means when the car inevitable fills with water through a dodgy rear light seal or whatever else it means the battery gets submerged...

Best idea ever. Weight distribution yo!
