Audi RS5

The F10 550iX exists in Europe too.

You honestly think I don't know that? :p

He replied to a post recommending a 535Xi (Ie, already a 4wd model) and suggested that as he lives in 'LHD Land' he might consider a 550Xi instead. I took this to mean he thought he lived in America where gas was cheap therefore the 535Xi offered no benefit over a 550Xi.

Yes, yes, I know an RS5 isn't exactly frugal, thats just how I read it, ok :p

Good car the RS5, nowt wrong with it and it'll be ideal for what you want if the rear seats are big enough. Sure you can have an M3 or a C63 if you want more speed or a sharper car but why do you need that, all 3 are faster than you'll use most of the time and none of them are close to dogs, not even in the same country as a dog. Like me you want something rapid, smart, quick in all conditions and simply does what it says on the tin. In bad conditions on a twisty road neither the M3 or C63 will stay with an RS5 and no matter what Evo or Autocar might say about their merits they'd agree with that I think, certainly go quickly with far less effort that's for sure. Panamera is epic, really fabulous and couple of mates I know who run them are full of praise for their ability but bugger me they look like a smacked arse and I like Porks.

RS5 is epic and even though I'd prefer a sharper car the fact is A to B in style is pretty good and a 599 is sharper than all of them so why worry about how the steering feels, use the weekend car for that.

Wouldn't any of the performance 4x4's still be a handful in the ice/snow? 4WD doesn't make the car invincible. Trust me, I live in a place that gets a lot of snow (103" a couple of winters back) and I see just as many 4x4's parked in snow banks than any other car......mainly because the drivers think "4x4 means I can drive like a loon in the snow". Of course it would be better than the Ferrari, but you're still talking about a lot of HP trying to grip on snow/ice.

I'd go for a beaten up old Defender and have some no-worries fun :)

Snow in an RS Audi is a genuine non event where other cars simply fall apart. Doesn't stop or turn any better, it just puts its power down with zero effort and is VERY clever at just sorting it.

Range Rover Sport? Clutching at straws there :)

I'm with Fox on the RS5, to me it doesn't look like an RS model. Needs bigger, more flared arches imho.

How about a wicked Scooby, innit bruv?

Fair enough. Although 550i adds more power, more waftability, a V8 and more importantly - trapezoidal exhausts :D

Although I'd still want a look at a B3 S Bi-Turbo Allrad..

As much as I doubt this to be a serious suggestion, ground clearance would an obvious issue.

Like he said, he's got and all out performance car already. My guess is he just wants a reasonably powerful, comfortable, well built car which can handle the snow.

I say go for the RS5. So the steering feel isn't great, you've got a Ferrari and if you need that razor sharp feel, simply jump out of the Audi and into the Ferrari. Sorted.
