Audi TT good or bad ?

I used to own one and happily would again. I think certain people need to get a grip a little, either that or to get a complete perpespective change. To say the TT has bad handling is ludicrous, fair enough it's no as involving as some but it goes round corners like it's on rails. It will outdrive many cars of the same class. I also don't know where the cramped idea comes from as i'm 6'4 and there's as much driver and passenger room in it as a golf and I assume anyone buying a coupe doesn't really car how much room is in the back for the rottweilers, but I happilly ported a 36" crt around in the back of mine a good few times with the rear bench down so hardly tiny.

Sure it's not some RWD scremaing rally **** but it was never meant to be and handles every bit as well if not better than the R32 which I've also owned albeit briefly.

Handbags and gladrags image or not the TT should be praised as being one of the very few cars that goes from motorshow concept drawing to realworld flesh virtually unaltered and at the end of the day if you think it's a bad car then so is a golf or an A3/S3.

I'd also question why anyone would choose to bring up one for discussion on here as peoples opinions are very polarised already and unlikely to change plus the OP has clearly made his mind up before posting. I'd personally go with the 14yr old age estimate.

I've driven both (225) extensively, and for me the R32 would be the one I would buy. It is a very special car, and will always be worth a few bob.
I'm not discounting the TT though, as I think its excellent - I really enjoyed the whole experience. In a TT you feel like a poser, in an R32, you'll think of yourself as a bit of a naughty boy. :)

The problem with the 3.2TT isnt the haldex system its the weight of the V6 up front. Top gear had one on test and kept comenting on the massive understeer due to the weight when the stig was pushing it compared to the 225 Quattro.

As another ower for the past 11 months I have to say I really Like it. I would even happily consider buying another newer on at some time in the future.

They do have their faults tho, I've spent a fair bit on getting some fit and fixture issues sorted out and a main dealer service at 80k + cam belt of £930 was stupidly high, but thats my fault for not going independant.

If power is a problem then spend £400 and go from 225bhp to 265 / 270 with a standard remap. This is something I'm currently looking at from at least 4 different companies. And if the haldex system is a problem then have the new updated haldex controller fitted for £500 which changes the bias of the power distribution.

With the price dropping on TT's generally, and could drop even more over the next 6 months depending on how the Mk2 TT turns out, you can easily pick one in the price range and allow the extra £1k for the above mentioned mods to make the car how people on here think it should be.

As with any car, take one out and try it. I think they look stunning, even now and for a similar priced car I've not see a better looking and made interior. I would definatly see them both, the copue and roadster, as 2 seaters. I've had 4 in mine and it's not comfortable for any of you so keep that in mind.

a) Haldex was not developed for the R32 Golf
b) How did you drive the Audi TT 3.2 V6 if you are, as you said in another thread, 14? ;)

of course im not 14, duh. . . . . .I was taking the michael as people where suggesting I was some low life who was just lying?? like yeah im 14 and have several high powered road weapons What was haldex developed for then mr fox ?

also is it not possible for somone to own a real car on here without a huge suspicion coup ?

is there really no one else here that drives a special car? I dont believe that for a second.

Haldex was nothing to do with Volksawagen it was invented by a swedish company as a different form of powering all four wheels. The VW group became the first manufacturer to impliment it on their vehicles but since then its been used by Volvo on all its AWD models and Ford also use the system.

I'm a fan, myself. As Nem said, you can't complain with over 250 bhp. Right hand drive models can be picked up for less than 10k now too, and although the earliest models are now 7 years of age, they sure don't look it.

I doubt it was developed with any specific model in mind but afaik the first car it appeared in was something like the Audi A3 1.8T Quattro, some 5 years before the R32's introduction.

There are some *very* special cars on here.

Surley the TT and R32 use the same AWD system?
They share engines etc as they are all VAG cars are they not? Seems like it would be a false economy to develop or even just to use 2 different systems.

Yes they do share the same AWD system as they are all based on the same platform, with the same engines and transmissions.

Not at all, but we've had a few fakers on here with portable suns and all. And generally they are found out initially by their attitude and posting style. Which is why people are asking questions about you ;)

There are lots of special cars on here but not EVERYONE drives a Honda :p Just kidding.

My thoughts:
Pros:
- I still think it looks good, and has a good reputation. That's obvious from the value they retain s/h.
- Adequate performance and can be driven pretty quickly in most conditions because of the 4wd. As they're mostly turbos, fairly easy to uprate the power outputs
- Great interiors. I don't like Audis and have said so frequently, but I still think that their car interiors are generally way ahead of any similarly priced competitor

Negs:
- I don't like Audis, partly because of their dealers, who I've had nothing but disdain from.
- Not cheap to buy, though that is made up for by good retention rates on their values
- Never driven one, but meant to be a little lacking in feel and feedback from a drivers perspective
- Mostly 4wd, and have a lousy weight distribution. I know only too well the implications of this, and much prefer rwd cars.

Strikes me as being a good car for someone who wants to make a statement (I won't make a judgement on the type of statement), own a car with a great "feelgood interior", is fairly rapid, but doesn't want the hassle of actually needing some ability to drive fast.

as others have said we have had a few folks ( mainly kids ) come on here and shoot there mouth off and get caught out later , this has lead to a little scepticism , hopefully they won't find out that I drive a 1976 Talbot Samba in real life :D

You got something against the Talbot Samba?

As other have said kids come on here shouting off and want eveyone to go wow your amazing, eveyone gets found out sooner or later!

its like the mustang, figures add up looks OK i suppose, crap car when you drive it, only somone who has no clue would buy either

Uh huh. You just keep thinking that then, but do try and realise that other people might have different tastes. Personally I like cars with big, simple pushrod V8s....if that means I have "no clue" in your eyes then so be it. As for the TT - not my cup of tea, but since I have "no clue" then you can't really go by my opinion, can you?
