AUNE T1 (MK1 + MK2) discussion

I had a newest version of the HE400's and I didn't like them.

If you like bass you cannot really go wrong with Fidelio X2's.

If you want perfection though HD700's @ £350 are your best bet

the 400i is nothing like the 400

even so, I very much doubt it's worth the money.

I shouldn't judge it without listening to it but I was horrified that so much hype had been built around the 400 and to me it sounded like a £120 headphone not a £400 one.

I think better manufacturers are around for the money. Audeze, Sennheiser and AKG for sure.

I would love to hear a 400i but I don't want to pay again to do so.

From what I gather the original HE-400 is all about da bass and not much else whereas the HE-400i is much more neutral

Personally I will be sticking with my silver box HD650s as I love the sound and it would cost a kidney and half a liver to get the LCD2 :D

Read a review of the 400i and then come back with your initial statement :p

ok been looking online and there are only a couple of places to buy from where did everybody else get theirs , can you recommend a seller ?

I'm using my Aune T1 in place of my Schiit Modi now, it's absolutely silent between tracks whereas the Modi is anything but. The difference is the Modi gets it's power from the USB cable, so is able to pick up noise from the PC, while the Aune has it's own 24v linear PSU, which is a real brick and weighs in at 1kg. I can even sit the PSU next to my router and it still doesn't pick up any interference. :)

I've switched the gain to zero to optimize it for use with my IEMs. This means a very low noise floor and mid sweep travel on the volume control when using my IEMs which reduces any channel imbalance, a problem common when only using the first few percent of travel.

The line outs feed into my Schiit Vali amp, which I use for my HD650s and AKG K702s. The sound doesn't become overly soft due to the double use of tubes because the Vali isn't a particularly "tubey" sounding amp to start with, more like a solid state with a smooth top end.

I'm currently listening to "The One That Got Away" by The Civil Wars through my RHA MA750 IEMs and there is no hint of harshness in the highs, which was something I occasionally heard when using them with my STX, just plenty of extension and silky smooth with it. With a 10ohm output impedance the Aune is the same as the STX, while I believe the Vali is 6ohms. I don't have any very low impedance headphones so low damping factor isn't an issue and my IEMs don't seem to care either because the bass through these MA750's sounds crisp, fast and powerful, there is a definite "smack" when the kick drum is used and bass guitar has a very satisfying growl that goes very low.

Only problem I have now is this opens me up to tube rolling again, so I need to avoid EBay at all costs. :D

I had the new Kenny Wayne Shepherd album cued up and ready to rock, pressed play and ............. nothing. :(

Seems my Modi has died and is no longer recognised by Windows. It happened a few times over the last couple of weeks so I think it's been slowly dying and it has now finally shuffled off and gone to meet it's maker.

I pulled my Aune T1 out of the cupboard, plugged in a Mullard 6DJ8 tube and connected it up. Initially I was using the Aune just as a DAC with built in tubifier. However, when I started switching the Magni 2 in and out I could barely hear any difference, so it is now acting as both DAC and amp and it's sounding very tasty. I will keep the Magni 2 connected to it so I can use the low gain switch for my IEMs and it also gives me the option of using two headphones at the same time - obviously not both on my head.

Shame.

Gives you a reason to upgrade though! The Aune is good for the price, but there is much better out there...

Woo Audio WA7 Fireflies would be a nice upgrade. Perhaps the Bottlehead Crack with Speedball mod if the Woo is a bit rich for you. Both superb.
