I'm using my Aune T1 in place of my Schiit Modi now, it's absolutely silent between tracks whereas the Modi is anything but. The difference is the Modi gets it's power from the USB cable, so is able to pick up noise from the PC, while the Aune has it's own 24v linear PSU, which is a real brick and weighs in at 1kg. I can even sit the PSU next to my router and it still doesn't pick up any interference.
I've switched the gain to zero to optimize it for use with my IEMs. This means a very low noise floor and mid sweep travel on the volume control when using my IEMs which reduces any channel imbalance, a problem common when only using the first few percent of travel.
The line outs feed into my Schiit Vali amp, which I use for my HD650s and AKG K702s. The sound doesn't become overly soft due to the double use of tubes because the Vali isn't a particularly "tubey" sounding amp to start with, more like a solid state with a smooth top end.
I'm currently listening to "The One That Got Away" by The Civil Wars through my RHA MA750 IEMs and there is no hint of harshness in the highs, which was something I occasionally heard when using them with my STX, just plenty of extension and silky smooth with it. With a 10ohm output impedance the Aune is the same as the STX, while I believe the Vali is 6ohms. I don't have any very low impedance headphones so low damping factor isn't an issue and my IEMs don't seem to care either because the bass through these MA750's sounds crisp, fast and powerful, there is a definite "smack" when the kick drum is used and bass guitar has a very satisfying growl that goes very low.
Only problem I have now is this opens me up to tube rolling again, so I need to avoid EBay at all costs.
