No matter what country you are in you have to assume you have no privacy and everything you do or say anywhere can and will be used against you if it so suits the Gov running the show....

Wouldn't say its left wing as oz has one of the most right wing goverments in history right now. Scott Morrison the prime minister is apart of and funded by the whacky American pentecostal church hands down the worst pm Oz has ever had. Don't mistake the word Liberal party its actually Australia's version of the conservative party.

Years ago Australia tried to implement a firewall system so the goverment could try and block what ever websites it wanted. But like the UK found it out at the time it was too expensive. Think they have been watching China a bit too closely.

e: There is no left/right divide on this tho, all parties want to move to maximum surveillance in the near future. It's coming, and there's no stopping it.

It was more of an age verification rather than a "porn ID"? I think people were more worried companies who do the verification knowing exactly whom their clients were. Although they could have just as easily tied it in with all online betting / online booze shops / weapons / anything else 18+.

No different to the states - all SMS can be sent through the security services for delay/blocking/modification or creation.

so essentially they can spoof and receive all the communications. It’s the reason why there’s always a cat and mouse between gov and criminals using random IP based messaging apps with encryption. No criminal uses SMS..

Google, Facebook and Amazon could do a far better job than our impotent government ever could. Did they ever think ahead of their bluster? The lack of evidence is striking
