Australia vs India

Great win from India and an amazing performance, was expecting an Aussie rout in Perth but India played brilliantly. The Aussie first innings was key for me, India mowed their top order over and had it not been for a century stand between Symonds and Gilchrist it didn't look like they were even gonna make it to 150!

India using their brains and going for 3 quick bowlers and it paid off, Pathan wins MOTM with a good performance with bat and ball. Sets up a good final match where India will be looking to draw the series

Nothing wrong with 4 quicks IMO. Its just that Tait is a crap pie slinger. We've known that since 2005 ;)

He seems to do well in Aussie domestic cricket but just seems all pace and no control to me. They seem to rate him quite highly and Lee went through a similar phase as well but eventually came good. Always felt Lee had control though but was just trying to bowl too quickly whereas I'm sure about Tait.

Surprised India dropped Harbhajan as well, usually they aren't that bright in these kind of situations but good to see for once they were playing according to the pitch and not just sticking out their regular team.

This is the first time India has won a Test game at the WACA, so I expect plenty of celebrations in the locker room tonight. They played superbly, and Kumble's excellent captaincy makes him a worthy rival to Ponting. His decision to use Virender Sehwag was inspired.

It's a shame we lost, but it was still great to see some damn good cricket without any of the malarkey that overshadowed the previous game. :)

A great result for India, bringing those Aussies down to earth for a few days at least.:)

Did anyone see the working over that Sharma was giving Ponting, I haven't seen him in that much trouble for a while, superb bowling and he looks a fantastic prospect.

A curious turn of events indeed.

ICC: Harbhajan you're banned for three games, you racist bugger!
Harbhajan: No way!
Kumble: He's innocent!
1.1 billion Indians: Death to Australia!
BCCI: If you don't let Harbhajan play, we're taking the team home and NEVER PLAYING CRICKET WITH YOU GUYS AGAIN! EVER!
ICC: Geez, what a bunch of whingers... alright, you can have him for the WACA game, but then he's out on his ear.
Kumble: Ah, screw it, we didn't want him anyway. Harbhajan, go and sit over there. We'll call you if we need some oranges at lunch.
ICC: What the...?

Catching was brilliant throughout the entire game, too. India were pouncing on anything that moved.

I managed to stay awake for that over and Ponting did look average indeed :D. absolutely ecstatic india won!! Just hope we can draw the series now.

This win for India is not only good for them, but good for cricket in general. It seems before any test match Australia plays against any team they are automatically heavy favourites and are simply expected to win.
I support Australia against any other team (except India) but watching Australia win (and win very, very comfortably) is boring. I enjoy watching them be pushed to the end (like in Sydney). And when they actually lose a game, it is entertaining. Heck, I reckon some Australian fans would enjoy seeing some of these closer contests.

Well seeing as they have won 16 in a row, it doesnt surprise me at all that they are put as heavily favourites in every test they play.

Good win for India but try not to let it get to your heads eh??;):p...if any team was to beat the Aussies my money was on India to do so but i expect the Aussies to be back looking for revenge in the next match. Plus the fact they were missing Hayden didnt help matters much...2 new openers was a bit of a gamble if you ask me.

Still my money is on the Aussies to give the Indians a right good ole bashing come the next test..

That was brilliant from him, been a long long time since I've seen Ponting look so lost against pace bowling before. You always feel you can get him early on with spin bowling but last few years he has just murdered near about every fast bowler.

That was class by Sharma, like you say he looks a real prospect so I hope the Indian media don't do their usual over-hyping and put a ton of pressure on him like they have done with other good prospects like Pathan. Not quick but he is 6 foot 5 inches so he can be like a McGrath and get the ball to rise just off a length a bit more than you expect. Is only 19 as well and I think a spell in England would do him a world of good but most Indians prefer to stay in India because they can get well paid by the advertisers there and that is something imo which holds them back. Just look at Zaheer Khan and RP Singh over the past year, the main reason they are doing so well is because they had a good spell here in England where they could work on their physical game and technique without media pressure and those two have looked genuine quality wicket takers ever since on the international stage. Problem is most of the Indian batsman are motivated by only money and fame and that is why they can never become a top side like the Aussies who are motivated by wanting to be the greatest in the sport.

A curious turn of events indeed.

I don't think he was gonna play anyway and with how well the fast bowlers have done I can't see him getting into the next game either

To be fair the Aussies they are near enough unbeatable at the W.A.C.A, that pitch is seen as a reality check to most teams and many have got battered here by the Aussies. In the last 22 years the only other team who has beaten them there has been the West Indies and that was with the big, tall, mean and fast bowling attack of Bishop, Ambrose and Walsh who would love this kind of pitch because of the bounce. When you go 16 matches unbeaten and you play for Australia you are favourite in any match you play and deservedly so. I'd love to think this India team could knock the Aussies off their perch but they can't, they simply won't go to every country and dominate like the Aussies do. England had a decent chance after their Ashes win and had a formidable team but that has fallen apart now with injuries and players losing form. The Aussies aren't as stong as they were because of McGrath and Warne retiring but they still probably will out bowl most teams.

Gavasker reckons this is one of the greatest victories India has had in the past 40 years and that is a big statement coming from him considering some of the epic performances and games he played in!

Some interesting facts about India vs Australia

Since India's disastrous tour in 1991-92, the teams have met 21 times in Test cricket; the numbers now stand at 10-8 in Australia's favour. In the corresponding period Australia's record stands at 27-9 against England, 12-2 against Pakistan, 15-4 against South Africa and 9-1 against Sri Lanka. And India were the last team to humble Australia in a home Test.

I'd guess most of those wins were in India but still impressive, could also say most of the Aussie wins have been in Australia as well because they have struggled in India.

Interesting. My point being is that Australia wins many of it matches by over 150+ runs. They win, and win comfortably. For any team to push Australia to the edge, as we saw Sydney, is fantastic. For them to actually win the match, is simply fantastic.

That being said, I do agree the Australia will bounce back next test, and are probably heavy favourites to win again. (You can't take away their 16 game winning streak) But at least I think, India will be able to push them (if only a little)

India currently 366/7 in their first innings. Tendulkar with a majestic 153 off just 203 balls and was looking good until he hurt himself and then was out next ball. Great innings from him and that is century number 39 and fitting that in probably his last match in Australia he played such a brilliant knock. He really looked in the mood today and I was thinking if someone could hang around he would go past 200 today.

India playing with real intent in this match. 5 bowlers selected so they better hope they can knock the Aussies over quickly or that might backfire. They will also hope they can get to at least 400 in this innings.

India now 526-9 and Kumble is on 87, hope he makes his century.:D

Typical, 2 minutes after posting, Kumble is out and the Indians for the 526.

Gilly now taken the most test dismissals.

Really good score for India and surprised after Tendulkar fell they got that far. Unlucky for Kumble not to get his century, I think making a century in England and Australia within a year is probably pushing it for him :p

Last time India were here the Aussies made 556 and still lost the match so a high first innings score doesn't guarantee victory here. Match is poised nicely at the moment, India will be looking to get them out for less than 350 here and that would really put them under pressure.

The last time they played the match followed a similar trend, both posted 500+ scores but the 2nd innings was a different story all together! Though by then at the end of the 4th day India had bowled the Aussies out and had the whole day to chase down the score.

Match is headed for a draw unless something dramatic happens tomorrow. India will have to set them something like a quick fire 150-180 and then just bowl their hearts out. Not gonna happen I think
