Australian GP 2009 - Race 1/17 (NOT in HD BTW)

So... Legard... never listened to Five Live, what's he like?
To compare him to the Five Live football commentators, he's much more Mike Ingham than Alan Green. If that helps :D

Having listened to a few Five Live Grand Prix broadcasts, I thought he did a good job commentating on a sport that translates to radio almost as badly as snooker :D

Ooh, not long now. Thanks to all the regs and testing revelations, I'm looking forward to this season more than any other :)

Just reading on BBC news that there may be a protest at some of the aerodynamic packages on the back of the BrawnGP, Williams and Toyota cars.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/formula_one/7962869.stm

old old news. Its to do with some interpretation of the rules about heights of the rear diffuser.

It looks like if it is deemed illegal, the affected teams will have to change. However, they will not be docked any points, or affect the race (Provided they pass scrutineering?)

You can bet your bottom dollar (as mentioned in the other thread) the teams running these affected diffusers will have a secondary solution already in place :)

Just been getting my usual punt sorted out on each race weekend. Must be the first time the bookies have Button down as more likely to win than Hamilton!

Here's how I bet.
Race Winner : Kimi
Pole Position : Massa
Fastest Lap : Kimi
Also had a stab at Button finishing in the top 3.

Yes.. i'm a Kimi fanboy :p

Plan to do an all nighter on thursday/friday for Practice 1 and 2, Get up at 5am on Saturday, watch Practice 3 on iplayer which leads nicely into the live quali at 6am. Then of course watch race live on sunday.

is it not live only? most sport is

Putting my money where my mouth is so to speak and putting a tenner on the messiah at 9 to 1. Fingers crossed! :)

Well, as long as it was just sandbagging from McLaren then you'd have to say Hamilton is a fair bet - he certainly knows how to win a race. If they weren't sandbagging, and the car really is that bad right now....you've just thrown away a tenner :)

but saying that, last "ever" silverstone in HD?! Lets hope so.

If Bernie gets his way, and if Donnington dont seriously pull their finger out and build a new motorway, its likely to be the last "ever" British GP!

Yup thats pretty much exactly how I feel. Going to be interesting to see what their mechanical KERs is going to do to their lap times in relation to the opposition.

w00t, can't wait to watch a race with no adverts, and no utterly retarded comments from james allen \o/

Anyone know if the online stuff is live or just available afterwards? Living in the middle of nowhere has it's downsides, no tv reception at all :(

Oh, cheers for the thread jaykay, but sort out the column alignment :p

If all else fails there's the fia's live timing feed http://www.formula1.com/services/live_timing/registration.html

Quoting FrankJH from the preview thread:

We know for a fact that BrawnGP where doing long enough stints so that fuel wasnt light before pitting. That really only allows for missing ballast, which imo would make the testing times completely ridiculous - as this "permanent" weight would surely affect the cars handling even more than low fuel

Not only that if you take away the effect of the double diffuser (which is rumoured to give 1/2 sec per lap or something), over most runs Brawn GP where still the same amount ahead where they not?

Didn't Brawn say that there was no way they could fit KERS to their car without a complete redesign? I think the reason the Brawn has the extra edge (even allowing for the dubious diffuser) is down to this. The other teams have had to compromise various areas of the design to allow for KERS - whether they're actually running it or not - whereas Brawn took an early decision not to have it this year and have an edge as a result.

Whether this will turn out to be a good thing or not depends a lot on how effective KERS turns out to be under race conditions.

It just seems like a complete waste of time to test an illegal car in the only chances you get (with such drastic rule changes in mind, and less testing time)

Its possible yes - but with Brawn at the helm I think highly unlikely

I agree; it'd be madness to test an illegal car.
