Australian Grand Prix 2011, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/19

Anyone know if it will be streamed on the BBC website in HD? I know that HD on the Iplayer isn't as good as real HD, but an HD stream onto my tele might be slightly better than SD. I'm not sure I can justify paying £100 or so for a freeview HD box simply for the F1.

Just so you know, practice sessions on the red button won't be in HD. The transmission is still a HD picture so should be a bit better than SD.

a HD stream at the same resolution will be the same if not better than your TV.

Depending on your monitor

but the web resolution doesnt necessarily need to be the same as that transmitted over the air (I dont know if it is or not, just saying it doesnt have to be), I would be surprised if they are streaming at 1080i/p though :)

??? WTF

Just gone to the SKY Guide, the Quali is in HD, the main race on Sunday isn't..

Did I miss that memo? Where Bernie has decided we aren't ready for HD on both days, and is just getting us hooked on HD Qualifying, then ups the price for the main race next year?

Or is my Sky HD Guide playing tricks?

But anything less than 720p isn't high definition ;-)

Not strictly true, HD seems to be a wide ranging terms these days (HD phones that arent even close to 720 let alone 1080, let alone other products) :)

Not sure if they broadcast 1080p in freeview.

I believe they can do - but I think majority is 1080i

BBC One Hd website schedule for Saturday and Sunday is exactly the same (but it doesnt say what they are transmitting in) - certainly doesnt confirm its in HD on either day

I (along with a lot of others I dont doubt) will be seriously ******* if you are right

this could land up being the best race of the season, again. I'm gonna wimp out and record the quali and watch it as soon as I get up, but i'm gonna get up for the race live. Afternoon naps were made for things like this, you don't have to be old to justify them.
Only 1 person commented on the potential for rain?! that could make things even more exciting too!

Soooo looking forward to this, i almost feel sick with anticipation.

Good news too....the wife is going out with friends, so i get to wake the kids up and watch the whole lot in glorious HD with the volume turned up, annoying both the wife (with hangover) and neighbours.

I DO NOT CARE :)

Classic races

Classic F1 2011 - Sebastian Vettel

The feature has been running for two years but after showing highlights of more than 200 grands prix since 2009, we have decided to change the format for this season.

Rather than us choose the races, the Formula 1 drivers themselves will do it.
Japan 2009 - from the beginning to the end a very good race.
Sebastian Vettel convincingly won the Japanese Grand Prix to keep his slim title hopes alive but championship leader Jenson Button stayed in control.

Japan 2010 - from the beginning to the end a very good race and it's special to win somewhere two years in a row, especially a great track like Suzuka.

Abu Dhabi 2010, where I won the championship for the first time.
Sebastian Vettel drove a masterful race to win the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and lift his maiden Formula 1 world title.
Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel reignited his world championship hopes with an emphatic lights-to-flag victory in the Japanese Grand Prix.

Well I have been learning to pole dance during the close season. See what I did there? :D

All I could think was "His name is lola,he was a show girl" haha.

*cough* anyway... I think this race will be interesting enough without rain due to tyre degradation and all the different stratagies. We shall see though, will be getting up for both of them, just got to work out what alarm to set as you just know iphone alarm is going to fail again with the clock change.

And finally: Comon McLaren!!!

Can't wait for this race, going to be great! Can see Red Bull walking away with it.

I really hope that they don't, a repeat of last year, where the only reason that red bull didn't walk away with things leaving everyone else standing, would be rather depressing.. its meant to be a sport, and where one team totally dominates, it gets boring.. just like it was with schumacher in 2000,2001,2002,2003 and 2004..
