Australian Grand Prix 2011, Albert Park Circuit - Race 1/19

Vettel gained an advantage by not braking to stay on the track and flooring it into and on the run-off area, he only gained time but so does corner cutting if you don't pass anyone.

It's Formula One's fault for sticking huge run offs everywhere instead of gravel traps, when it's made that easy for an F1 driver to leave the track they will do when it suits them.

Indeed my stance on that (and the torro rosso taking the force india) would be, could they of made the pass if a wall was there, if not, it aint a legit over take.

imho anyway.

the stewards should treat concrete run off areas as if they were gravel traps.

no way he would have tried that overtake if it was a gravel trap,

I feel like I must be the only mark webber fan here (or atleast hate seb the most), cause I keep wondering about this difference between the cars as i refuse to believe vettel was that must faster on just pure talent, apparantly the car did have atleast some problem:

I am not a Webber fan, but I absolutely believe there was a difference between the cars. As mentioned before, I can't blame them for backing Vettel - same with Ferrari clearly backing Alonso (especially after the last race of last season). Just wish they weren't so obvious with it. Like others have said on here, it wouldn't be the first time they have screwed over Webber.

Agreed.

I dont think theres a difference in the cars at all, more likely its been developed to suit Vettels style more as a default is more likely and Webbers having more issues getting a handle on it so early in the season. To be honest its a non story for me...

As much as I like Mark, he really should learn to realise who pays his wages without the sneaky slurs so early in the season...

The result is the same, Webber gets screwed over.
I dont see your point - its physically impossible to make a race car thats equally suited to 2 drivers - theres always going to be some unexpected bias, I just expect that bias to fall to Vettel - /feigns surprise...

Do people forget F1 is a business and teams will ultimately make sure they themselves get the best result, afraid Webbers hasnt really done enough to deter RBR otherwise, just like people like Massa and Rubens before him - its not like we are playing croquet with the Vicar on the village green after afternoon tea...

i think it would have been interesting to see how it would have been viewed had the driver defending, in that case button, simply gone into the corner much faster than normal knowing the run off was available making it impossible for the driver following to pull of such a manouver, because to me thats what they are going to have to do from now on at that part of the circuit in order to stop the driver behind just doing what vettel did, a bit poor imo!

Did not disagree that Vettel should have the car suited to him, he is the world champion after all. My point was that there is a clear difference in the car which means Webber gets screwed over.

Yes because F1 drivers dont go into corners as fast as possible already. Your statement is flawed :D

Just put in better rumble strips like Monza for example.

There are no differences in the car, the chassis are made identical from the same moullds.

Im sure someone will say they use cheaper nuts and bolts or something next for Webbers car - its all a conspiracy and Bernies an alien or something :p...

After the Aussie GP I was questioning whether Webber and Vettel had identical cars, or just that Vettel is *that* good a driver.

I'd like to think that the cars were identical :), but I guess it's because of the shenanigans last year that I'm even questioning it!
