Australian Grand Prix 2014, Melbourne - Race 1/19

What a cracking qualifying session. Magnussen beating Button and Ricciardo humiliating Vettel - didn't see that coming at all! Hamilton barely scraping his nose in front of Rosberg was another big surprise, Nico timed his last lap all wrong - he should have had another lap and I think he would have taken pole if he he'd had it.

Terrible from Lotus, Williams looking decent but not up to the expectations set in pre-season and Kimi isn't look too hot in that Ferrari.

Who knows what would have happened without the rain card being played but those out-of-position drivers should make things interesting. Can't wait to see what the race brings.

Excellent qualifying sessions. It's true, the cars sound broken, but I'm sure we will get used to it.

Hamilton very respectful of driving a turbo motor with early shifts to avoid turbo spool whipping the wheels out.

I wouldn't call nearly three tenths "barely scraping his nose in front" in Formula 1 ...

How Lewis kept the car on track on his pole lap was awesome. He must have lost 6ths  but for a guy who hates the rain Lewis did very well.

Sums it up! I think Magnussen could be a future champion, but when Ron saw him go fastest (in Q2?) he was delighted, then was knocked into second place about 5 seconds later. :p

Hopefully this will be Hamilton's year. Will be great to have a Brit winning the championship again this year and i think Hamilton deserves another title.

The Mercedes looks strong and Hamilton's great ability to wrestle a car around a track should pay dividends this year with the high amount of torque these cars have.

Enjoyed that, very quiet with the pew pew pew bbbaawww. See how out of shape Lewis got on that pole lap? Going to be an intresting race.

So, are we able to make any conclusions from the wet/damp qualifying?
I still have no idea just how fast the RBR car truly is.
When Vettel is qualifying 11 places behind his team-mate, you know that something is not quite right.

Is the race predicted to be wet or dry?
The one time I wanted a dry conditions...and it rains!

...but obviously JB has the experience and driving style for the races.

...and the race is what ultimately counts.
I'm expecting Button to out score Magnussen, by a decent margin this year.
Its very difficult to draw any conclusions from a wet/damp qualifying. So frustrating, as I wanted to see the true pecking order.

The only thing I know for sure is that Merc have the fastest package, but we don't know by how much.

That was a great quali. I actually quite like the new engine sounds.

Will be interesting to see how these cars get on in the race.

I hope Vettel keeps getting beaten by his team mate.

Incredible qually. On the edge of my seat.

Cars sound cool, but it's as though someone's engaged the EU volume protection limit. Root/jailbreak the cars please :D

can anyone inform me what the extra numbers are next to the drivers names for example with Lewis its 44 and Massa has 19 ??
