Australian Grand Prix 2014, Melbourne - Race 1/19

Was it just me that thought the Merc was very visually pulling away down the straight from Riccy? Then wow, second lap, the gap is huge, outside of reliability that car looks immense.

Bit hard as you've got a relative noob behind Riccy who has a decent amount of experience. So maybe Mag is being a bit easy on it but could potentially be a lot faster when he's passed him. bottas seemed to have plenty of pace coming through the field. Does already feel like the Merc engines have such a huge advantage right now.

That Merc has got a performance like the Brawn had

But an actual team and money for both in season development and to work on next years updates so as not to screw the car.

I do think their pace is being a bit overplayed with William's/Button poor qualifying. I suspect that if there was a Merc engine car behind Rosberg the gap would be smaller, but it does look like there is genuinely more pace in that car.

In terms of fixing engines, I don't think a 10 grid penalty is that big a deal, maybe more so for Merc engine cars when it means something later in the year and I suspect we'll see a lot more failures all season long. So Hamilton/Vettel bad here, but Rosberg/Riccy have a failure next race , etc, etc. We don't even know Rosberg's engine won't completely blow in 2 or 20 more laps. Probably still some failures to come. Could also be that Merc want a huge gap because they are planning an extra pitstop based on condition of the softs, who knows.

That Merc is seriously quick.

Hamilton's decision to ditch McLaren at the end of 2012 was an inspired!

I'm sure Merc do....anyone else noticed that Kimi's DRS does not appear to be working!

And as I say that he starts to use it!
