Australian Grand Prix 2015, Melbourne - Race 1/19

I'd quite like to see them introduce a relatively strict cost cap, but greatly reduce the design regulations to get some innovation back into the sport.

The problem with coat caps is nobody trusts anyone enough to let them into their books. Also teams would find ways around it with subsidiaries and clever accounting tricks.

Absolutely. It would never work. But I agree in theory a cost cap + unrestricted development within it could lead to some great innovative designs

Today's Comments

Good to see Sauber getting a good race. The whole contracts situation was silly, but I don't want to see them going bankrupt over it.

LOL McLaren. If they've turned the engines power down to improve reliability, WTF happened to Magnesun? And that now means Fred is -1 engine for the season, without having driven it yet.

LOL at the Renault engine being rubbish. They've got even worse!?

Shame to see so few starters. What's up with Manor's software?

Given the whole testing ban and token changes, are Honda/Renault/Manor all stuffed for the rest of the season?

Ferrari seem to have come good - both the factory team and the customer engines. Fred didn't exactly choose a good time to leave :p.

Not sure why Ferrari didn't get a penalty for the pit release? They released the car with three wheels bolted on, with the pit crew waving goodbye, and then let the car continue onto the track and round a few corners.

Last comment is that Lewis needs to loose the gangster rapper chain. And get back with Nicole.

I didn't watch today but the comments on here are hardly selling it too me. I find Lewis hard to like at the best of times a Hamilton romp to the title by 30+ seconds a race might kill it for me. I'm time poor and have more than enough things to entertain me F1 may drop off the priorities.

also, looks like vettel made a good decision. If he can get something out of this car and do what hamiltion loos like he may do to rosberg all credit to him

i do wonder what alonso will be like when (IF!) he comes back this year.
he gets team choices wrong more than not!

Easy win for ham :)

Horner must be having a laugh. Were was these suggestions to 'balance' f1 2-3 years ago??

Can't see much happening from mclaren at all. 11 finishers and they still can't get a point, and to see ferrari best of the rest, poor alonso.

They didn't show much of either Mercedes-Benz cars. Some decent scraps further down but last year's GP was a bit like this too. Give it a few races for the teams and Engine manufacturers to get some reliability.

what a boring race. the only good thing about it was watching the slowest car on the grid hold off perez for a few laps!

Yes its australia and not the best track in the world but last years race here was a million times more interesting. Hopefully malaysia will be better.

actually amazed mclaren completed a race distance today.

McLaren will be quite pleased with how today went in some respects.

Could have been a lot worse. Completed a race distance and giving it a bit more beans than yesterday is progress at least. The car obviously ran okay with data to trawl through in aid to develop.

You feared the worst when the other car didn't even make it to the grid.

I was shocked Button was able to fend off the Force India.

I'm wondering that too. They said that they lost everything since all the servers etc.. were being auctioned, but since they have a Ferrari 2014 engine and Ferrari gearbox, and common ECU couldn't Ferrari have just given them some 2014 source code for them to work with?

Yeah. I'd be well annoyed if I bought an engine and didn't get a base map with it! Obviously I'd be expecting to fine tune the map myself, and to tweak it for my particular car/air-intake/fuel/exhaust setup... but I'd hope the manufacturer would at least provide a base map to get the thing running.

Perez was downright awful tbh. If that was hulk I doubt that fight would have lasted as long as it did.

I'm hoping we don't see this kind of race play out too often. I imagine the FIA will simply do what they've always done when one team dominates and that's to change the rules to even the playing field.

It wasn't just engine maps they were missing, they had no software at all. They barely got telemetry data from the cars and the pit wall running before the start of quali time. And even then they didn't say if all the information was complete.

A 133.3 for jenson on his last lap to a 131.1 rosberg recorded in his, with a detuned engine in the mclaren and a pushing merc driver... that sounds quite a bit better than yesterday.

Not sure car that does a lap 2.2 seconds slower is pushing anyone!
