I'm not saying this to troll, as I was a massive F1 fan back in the day.....but....

From this first race, does it look like F1 is still the same? ie. boring procession of cars, dictated by the strongest, with any actual racing hampered by tyre strategies? Was there any actual racing? Not overtakes in the pits etc

When was this not part of f1?

Was worth getting up for just to see a team beat Mercedes on pace :)

Could Hammy have been any more stroppy? Seriously tyres not working and he is setting competitive times!

Also, anyone else really surprised by the fact that the cars can't really overtake in this spec? Increased wake and larger wings... can't follow closely, more lost downforce.
Makes you question the intelligence of those in charge of the rules when us at home can see that making the cars (that already rely too much on downforce which makes them harder to get close to the car infront and overtake) produce even more downforce and grip and expect the racing to be better.
This is my 21st year watching F1 and it's not often I spent most of the time browsing forums/researching door locks and playing candy crush (yeah that bad) during the race.

I think so. Although, to be fair, they clearly thought he could pass Verstappen with DRS. I guess teams will learn for next time that these cars just can't pass.

True. China will be a good test — what was it last season, 160-odd overtakes? Let's see what happens to that figure in two weeks time.

They wanted Formula 1 to have the fastest, most aggressive looking cars. Personally I think that's a stupid aim.

Make the cars shorter and narrower. Limit the aero. Open up the mechanical rules. Let them develop mid-season with testing.

He's such a baby, always whining or complaining or blaming someone else, even when he's doing well. No doubts he's a great driver but seems like a tool.

Did you see him on the podium or his post-race interview? No whining, no complaining and he said that it was his choice to pit when he did.

During the race he was simply saying that it felt like the tyres were gone and that he couldn't pass Ves.

There's no doubt that he has been a petulant child in the past, but I don't think you can make that accusation of him today.

Then perhaps the past occasions taint my opinion but those are my feelings of him. I expected grumpiness post race that wasn't there but his radio complaints just sounded like same old Hamilton.
