Charles on another level today , well done

Leclerc is the real deal alright. I don't see him leaving F1 without several titles to his name.

Starting to see a very composed George coming through at the moment and even though he had a bit of luck he had a very solid drive. Lewis is going to have to up his game a little and stop moaning.

Russell has been very impressive, but let's not underplay Lewis here. Hamilton was faster in Quali and Race in Bahrain, faster in race in Jeddah after a botched Quali, and faster in Quali and Race today but unlucky with SC timing. Russell is ahead because he has been consistent and had a bit of luck rather than because he's been outperforming Lewis.

+1 was writing pretty much the same thing then got a notification that new posts were available.

I think it’s great for George, don’t get me wrong, but Lewis has been unlucky. Let’s see where they stand later on in the season before passing judgment.

Good race that, Leclerc had it in the bag all the way today, same as Bahrain really. More damage limitation for Merc as well, interesting to see if they do bring the rumoured wing/floor upgrades to Imola and if they work. RB look to be second best in the races *and* unreliable, but still early season and with Ferraris record in the past...

That SC restart incident with Mick was scary but ultimately it looked like the 2 cars infront of him misjudged the restart and in turn he nailed the throttle before everyone slammed on.

I’m surprised that Stroll got away with nudging Bottas off tbh.

As much as I enjoyed that race, it's only made me more angry than ever before about the 'must use two tyre compounds' rule. Albon could have run the whole race on that one set of tyres and finished even deeper into the points.

What is that rule even doing any more? What did it ever do? Why was it ever allowed to be a thing?

Because plenty of teams would go into tire saving mode (if the modelling shows 0 pit stop strategy is the fastest when accounting for pit loss) if they weren't forced to do at least 1 pit stop which is the last thing anyone wants. It may suck for Albon but the rules are there and everyone has to adhere to it, it's not guaranteed he would have finished deeper in the points if other teams went 0 pitstop strategy as well.

They should bring back refuelling instead. Would be far better.

I agree with sentiment but, no, there were some super super scary moments in the past with rapid refueling. Thats one part I would be more than happy to stay out of the races, theres just no way to make "refueling" and "as quickly as possible" work safely.

I just watched the highlights and it was a pretty decent race actually. How many SC restarts does Leclerc have to deal with? Lol.. Good on him though. As said above he seems the real deal. Super composed, great pace with a decent car under him. Who’s have thought I’d be ok with a Ferrari winning :p

Ignoring the final race, Max has a lot of karma coming his way for his behaviour across the whole of the last season
Quoted for truth.

Of course. That’s why it’s being called the ‘Verstappen Rule’ by commentators :D
I missed their explanation of this. Is it now clear that cars have to run single file behind each other at the restart? Or were they saying something about not being alongside the front win or something? (Rear wing?). As I said all along what MV was doing was inherently dangerous, so I’m glad they’ve sorted it out.

It might not last, but I’m enjoying both Mercs having more points than MV :p

Here you go, complete with diagrams of what’s acceptable and what isn’t.

Well, I enjoyed it due to Red Bull failing again :p.

The Merc didn't seem too far off the Red Bull in race pace today. Ferrari in a league of their own.

Lewis getting screwed over by safety cars continually is getting a bit old now.

Is it just me or do we see far more safety cars in F1 now compared with years a go. I seem to recall a safety car was a fairly rare thing, but it seems to happen multiple times every race now.

Seems hamilton had to nurse his engine home. Overheating issue so couldn't challenge russell. He was faster during the race, maybe could have caught perez again towards the end like the first stint with out it.

Woke up to a beautiful result. Leclerc should walk this. RB with no reliability, great to see. Ferrari due to turn their engines up in Spain, Mercedes with upgrades. It could be merc vs Ferrari again.

Yep

Max is already 46 points off Leclerc. I know there is a long way to go, but nothing Sainz has done so far this season has shown he poses any threat to Leclerc so unless RB sort their engine reliabilty out, or Merc suddenly find a second a lap in pace, Leclerc is going to win this at a canter.

They used to be willing to recover off track cars under yellows. That changed after Bianchi died.

That said, I think we're seeing more crashes due to mistakes this year. Sainz and Vettel both binned it without help this race.

Oh dear Sainz not your finest hour
Going backwards then tried too hard

Bonus points for another MV DNF
If Leclerc does win the World Championship as it seems just now, would he be the youngest?
He’d definitely be the first Monegasque

I see. That probably explains it then.I'm a bit torn about it really. I guess safety is a priority, and it does add some interest to the races, but at times it just feels like too much of a lottery and because safety cars are so frequent now, many of the results end up being down to luck.

If it was me I'd probably ban pitting under the safety car if we are going to have multiple ones every race.
