Australian skills shortage

I don't believe any civilised nation really has any skills shortages. They just need to offer more money or try better to find people, or offer training programmes.

Companies don't want to offer more money and they expect you to have knowledge when you do the job. So they rarely invest in training programmes.

We are struggling in my company because we dont have hyrid working or the language requirements.

Yeah exactly. Not really a genuine skills shortage. I'm sure there are capable people ready and willing to do the job if given the right training and/or incentives.

All my adult life there has supposedly been engineering skills shortages in the UK. I'm an engineer by degree and have never benefited from this supposed shortage.

And another thing to your point.

Unnecessary stupid job requirements, such as one job but when you look at the JD is actually three jobs.

Wait until your employer realises they could quite as easily hire someone much cheaper in another country rather than someone living in Switzerland working from home. ;)

I try to go into the office once a week, it's nice to meet colleagues, have a change of scenery and float ideas around/see what others are doing. Plus I have a lot of friends scattered around London so it's nice to catch up for drinks/food etc. I could understand wanting to stay indoors in the evenings posting on UK forums and watching British TV if you lived in Switzerland though. Not much else to do.

Personally, i am just back from a days skiing, will go wake-boarding tomorrow, rock climbing Wednesday. Not sure what you will get up to in London?

Soy latte and try not to get the manbag snatched coming out of the store?

back in the 1960s.my uncle upped sticks and moved out there on a 1 way ticket. sadly he had a motorbike accident and nearly died. it made him re-evaluate his life and he came back. shame.... would be nice to have family in australia to go visit.
I do have an old school friend out there... but we lost touch other than the stereotypical Facebook images of a BBQ on the beach over Xmas.

Hehe so glad I am away from that rubbish now. My original job description was to manage my staff. It ended up that I was HR, Payroll, Training on top of that. All streamlining to save some cash and make it all an online portal. I didn't get anything extra for it though.

I did a 10 mile walk through one of the many large parks today (London is the greenest city in Europe). Yesterday I sat in a nice old English pub. I can do indoor rock climbing in some pretty cool venues in London, I have done recently. There’s the awesome museums, natural history museum is my favourite. The awesome public transport which means I can get around really easily. I could go on more but really we are just comparing two great places with each other.

whilst I would take the red sea over it (despite never diving on the great barrier reef) the thing (parts of ) Australia has over London is incredible diving.
that said I am biased as I have a strong dislike for London.
.edit..... ahhh are we in Switzerland now? no idea about there.

Are you sure? The last time I checked it was Oslo in Norway followed by Bern in Switzerland. I dont remember seeing any UK cites on that list.

The articles I found were saying different
just guessing but maybe it depends how the stats are interpreted

literally amount of green space in the city borders
amount of green space per head of population
amount of green space per square mile of the city
or maybe some take into amount emissions and air quality etc

(just guessing I have no idea)

Probably this. Some use number of tree cover as a measure which is probably what @malachi has seen as that has put those cities mentioned up at the top.

Oh, just like the UK. Its a bank holiday here today. Bugger all open to do anything unless you want go hiking in the dark :p
lol, I wish everything was closed here - while you've been posting I've spent a couple of hours buying paint and soft furnishings for my kids rooms and then got something to eat. We were going to pop to the local EFL game tonight but it would be quite late getting home for the first week back at school.

Basel is even sleepier than Zurich but you know... would take it over the UK any day. I would probably live in Switzerland once the kids are grown up to be fair. We just wanted them to speak French and be bilingual which took us just over the border.

Trades are so in demand and backed up here. Plumber, electrician, HVAC/ Heating, anything... just can't find people with time for the jobs and prices are mega.
