Well, yes. He was in a hobbled car that was a lap down.

Instead he sticks it into the corner and nearly takes out his team mate.

The car became unhobbled, and whatever happened a slow car on the track happens and that will happen in corners, there isn't much you can do about that. If he was retiring, then yes, just go off track and get out of the way, but the car just came back to him, he's got to get going, and ultimately everyone could see him cars sometimes do corners side by side, that is racing.
