When was the track built?
The fearsome, original Osterreichring was originated in 1969 as a replacement for the Zeltweg airfield circuit. The track known today as the Red Bull Ring was more or less created over the winter of 1995-6, when Hermann Tilke was engaged to turn the Osterreichring into a shorter, more modern race track.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The A1-Ring, as it was then called, was opened in 1996, with Formula 1 arriving at the circuit a year later. Jacques Villeneuve won the race, while Jean Alesi had a spectacular crash when his Benetton climbed up the Ferrari of Eddie Irvine. Alesi’s team mate Gerhard Berger, meanwhile, used his home Grand Prix to announce his F1 retirement.
What’s the circuit like?
It’s only wee, bless it, but the Red Bull Ring packs a lot into a short lap. The first half rewards power, as the cars blast along three straights separated by a pair of uphill right-handers. But then as the drivers work their way downhill, the circuit becomes a regular toboggan ride, as the cars canyon through a series of quick corners, including the exhilarating Rindt right-hander, named for Austria’s first F1 champion.
Why go?
Race tracks don’t come much more picturesque than the Red Bull Ring, set in an idyllic natural bowl in the Styrian mountains. That makes for a pleasant environment for a Grand Prix, while if you’re after tourist attractions to visit after the race, look no further than the museum in Graz dedicated to the city’s favourite son: Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Where is the best place to watch?
One of Formula 1’s best views is to be had at the Red Bull Ring’s ‘Nord’ grandstand, based around the outside of what used to be the Bosch Kurve at the Osterreichring. Here, you’ll have a great vantage point across much of the track as it drops away from you down the natural slope of the circuit.

Hmm just looking at the standings, Leclerc isn't doing particularly well stats wise. Kimi had 12 podiums, and finished ahead of Max Verstappen, and Bottas. The Mercedes and Bottas are faster this year, so I don't expect Leclerc to finish above him, but the Red Bull isn't particularly quick, he absolutely needs to finish the season ahead of Max.

Arrived in Austria this morning, off to the circuit tomorrow and Sunday. I imagine it’ll be overrun by the crazy army of Dutch fans as Spa was last year. Can’t wait!

That was a nasty twitch that Bottas had, was a pretty bad place for it to happen too.

Other than that, Hamilton 4th, but his fastest lap was running on the hard tyre. Gasly in 3rd was pretty good, also nice to see Sainz up there too.

We've had a ruling on the Whyte Bikes vs Rich Energy logo theft.

It's a good one, but not for Rich Energy.... :D

The highlights:

A further hearing of the Intellectual Property Enterprise Court was heard in the Rolls Building in London on Thursday morning, where Rich Energy’s request to be allowed to take their case to the Court of Appeal was refused.

Further orders were made against Rich Energy, which are:
  • An court injunction has been granted, preventing Rich Energy from infringing Whyte Bikes’ copyright in their stag logo. The effect of this is that Rich Energy will not be able to use the stag logo on energy drinks or on any other products; this will take effect on the 18th of July.
  • Rich Energy requested a three month stay of this injunction. The court refused this, granting them a three week stay only.
  • Rich Energy have been ordered to deliver all infringing products to Whyte Bikes or, if they’d prefer, can destroy the items or render them non-infringing. This must be completed by the 1st of August.
  • A court declaration has been made that Rich Energy’s stag head logo UK trademark is invalid. This takes effect on the 18th of July.
  • Rich Energy has been ordered to disclose to ATB Sales (Whyte Bikes) the total UK and global sales to date of cans of Rich Energy featuring the offending logo, as well as the total sums received from these sales.
  • Rich Energy have been ordered to pay costs of £35,416 to Whyte Bikes within 14 days of the court date.
  • If Rich Energy and Whyte Bikes can’t agree on damages for copyright infringement, the court will assess it at a later hearing.
Rich Energy can go to the Court of Appeal for permission to appeal these orders, with any such application or application for a continuation of their three week stay being submitted before the 18th of July. Formal sign-off of these orders by Judge Melissa Clarke is scheduled for this coming Monday.

Oh that'll be fun. We'll get to see how much product they're not selling! :D

I don't understand Ferrari going out on the softs for starting tomorrow? It's meant to be even hotter during the race... and the softs haven't been exactly good in heat.

Only the Mercs and Verstappen are on the medium tyres.

Maybe they think it'll be a one stopper
