Automatic transmission.

And the looks are pretty damn good too

Think the IS300 is auto only.

Manifest... have you driven an IS200 as you seem to love them so much?

I have lived with one for a month or 2 between BMWs and they are one of the most awful POS to drive in the world. The 2 litre 6 cylinder engine is so gutless that you really need to work that 6 speed transmission to keep it on the boil. This would not be a problem if the gearbox was actually nice to use but it isn't. I found it notchy with the ratios poorly chosen.

btw, being the guy who said to come drive the 540i and see that autos can be fun. How does just under 300bhp and rear wheel drive strike you? You have the semi auto so you can literally thrash the motor within an inch of it's life. It aint no slouch I can tell you. Try telling anyone who has owned one that it isn't a "drivers car" and you will find suprise and astonishment on the faces of the owners. And also many offers of "try mine and see for yourself".

Have you driven a modern auto with a large engine?

Dude the only cars i have driven are my ford escort 1.4lx yuk.

I did the ferrari 355 course at thruxton which im going to do again come summer. When i did it last i drove the MG ZS. Ferrari 355. And lastly the formula renualt.

a lot of what i say is by looks man. Ok ok i shouldnt really have evidence to back up my views but all i know is that i would prefer manaul over auto just cause of the fact im young and like driving with hand gear changes and a clutch.

look lets be a bit more friendly. Seriosly check here because they have some great courses to offer for people who really enjoy driving or who have used autos because of town driving all the time and want to inject some fire back in there.

Peace drivers

Like i keep saying i dont mind about ho wmuch power a car has i like to drive with gears and a clutch. It could have 900 bph but i still wouldnt want to drive it if it was auto.

I conceed that manuals have a place for a true, get right in to it, driving experience. What I don't understand is your utter hatred of automatic transmissions.

If you say you will never own an auto you are missing out on some seriously gorgeous cars.

I am classing anything without a manual clutch as an auto here.

Aston Martin V12 Vanquish
Jaguar XJR v8
Jaguar XKR
BMW 760il
Mercedes AMG SL55
Audi S8
Bentley Turbo R
BMW M3 SMG
Lexus LS430

To name but a few. Are you seriously telling me that you would hate drving any one of these cars simply because of the automatic transmission?

I guess so yes. I wouldnt hate the drive because i bet it confortable. But i would be exceedingly frustrated. The only car i like from that bunch is the BMW M3 but you can get that in manaul im sure cause some guy had on ein my road.

To be honest i wouldnt feel id be missing out. I would be missin out if i couldnt use the engine to my own preference and technique however good or poor it is.

I dont have a hatred as such i would just get bored. In such a confortable car as well id probably fall alsleep due to the lack of effort in driving it. However that is what appeals to some people. Not me though.

Hell yeh i see what you mean. The look grows on me.

Hey do ferraris have turbos or just huge engines. I know littlew about the engine so anyone who would like to write sonthing about them would be welcome. Im interested.

I saw that on top gear i think. I was refering to jags and bentlys etc.

Yes its quick and got good kick when u will be pinned to the chair. In my opinion yes a very exciting drive but theres still something in me that says i wanna have a clutch and dump it when i feel like it. Surely that would be more exciting. At least then you are the source of your own excitment.

Please no masterbation jokes :D

But you can do all that you said. In the Vanquish, holding the left lever back against the wheel disengages the clutch for a "racing start".

Seriously, I know what you are saying about not liking the lack of control, but until you have tried a modern auto, don't knock them because they really are very good.

Old autos were a pain in the proverbial as they would change when you didn't want them to and generally took a lot of control away from the driver. Modern autos and SMG transmissions really are great invetions. They can be as smooth and relaxing as you like or as mean and in control as you like.

The few minutes every now and then that I wish I had a manual are more than made up for when I am stuck in a traffic jam and I just flick the lever towards me for "full auto" mode, sit back and relax.

Please don't get the feeling that I am a manual hater. I have had several manual cars in my time, in fact my next number 2 car will be a manual (1984 Lamborghini Countach coming soon :D :D :D )

If autos are quicker why is it when I’m playing Sega Rally is the auto option always slower :D
Explain that one ;) :p

Your getting a Lamborghini wowowowo cant wait for some pics.

I dont hate auto they are just not for me. It can be as quick and responsive as it like but i personnaly would like to drop the cluth and all that when i want to.

I had a think last night a rialised something. There is two sides to this argument and im being a bit nieve. (Cant actually spell it yet). Im only 18 and two months and i passed my driving test (first time :D) on may 23rd 2002. Im still loving the excitment of driving and the fact that i can do all the manual stuff.

But to me it still doesnt matter how amazing and quick etc a car is its become so much less apealing then if i could go into it and drive it with both feet :)

Rilot what do you do for a living. Car salesman cause you kno wload about cars and you own two expensive road vehicles. Ten getting a Lamborghini i mean surely sell all three and get a totally manual 6 speed open gate gear box ferrari.

Do ferraris have turbos in them?

Didn't say they were quiker. Just said that they weren't nasty to drive.

Manifesto, I am a technical consultant on large enterprise computer systems (talking things that cost in excess of £1M). It pays well and I love cars.

Can't afford the ferrari. Larborghini Countachs aren't very expensive at all. About the same as a brand new 540i.

I've wanted one for 18 years. Finally gonna achieve it this year.

Not exactly daily driver material though so running costs aren't really an issue. Now, if something goes wrong with it

You'd have to be He-Man to drive one daily ;)

i think you might be in for a disapointment. I'm assuming you're talkig about the anniversary? even that is a poor car for day to day use; the rear window is tiny, visibility s generally poor and the steering is heavy. Watch an old Clarkson review, highlights everything, i had one for approx 2 minutes (well if you owned one would you let me thrap it for any longer?) and i have to agree (well he is god after all).
Look at the diablo, much more refined.
