Random thought on the colour part of the equation - if you got an appropriate design of speaker, would it be feasible to get some white gloss vinyl and wrap the speakers?
Something like the 9.1s, whilst you might want to avoid the front faces, may be reasonably achievable to wrap the rest of the outer case in white?
