Average Salary/Good Salary

Im only 18, on my first job in South London and am earning 21k, which seems good for my age, and it also helps that i still live with parents so dont have rent and bills to pay. I would like to be closer to 30k by the time im 25.

Even *sharing* a crap flat somewhere near central london is going to cost you upwards of £600/month each. If you want to live on your own with £30k, forget it.

EDIT: And that's without electricity, gas, water, council tax, tv license, phone, internet etc. You'll soon end up spending over half your take home pay just to have somewhere to sleep.

I was sharing a house with 2 others on the Isle of Dogs for £500 a month all inc, wasn't crap either.

Currently have the front room of a 4 bedroomed terraced in Zone 3, £475 all inc.

Getting your own place single is stupid money though, I won't be bothering until I have a long term gf with plans for the future.

To be fair, that is MILES away from civilisation, but I take your point! :p

Most of my friends are living in fairly average places around SW (Fulham, Battersea, Clapham and as far as Balham) and are paying £600-£700/month (nearer £500 in Balham).

My sister's living in Newcastle and has a whole spacious 3 bedroom house with dining room, living room and garden in a nice area for around that!

Im shocked! I was expecting at least a few people to come in here blowing their own trumpets about what they are paid, but turns out I was wrong! :D

I'm sorry but the average salary, especially in my area is no where near £35,000, I strongly doubt it would be anywhere near that nationally.

Around here, £35,000 is manager salary in some way shape or form, the average person is not a manager lol...

In London about £30k is a reasonable salary, £40k+ a good salary.

Snap - bloody brilliant, tons of disposable income tbh

No such thing as tax free :p Are you sure that's not after tax wage with benefits included?

If you live in the UAE it is tax free, of course at a small salary like that it does not make much difference, but in a few years it will make a big difference:cool:. The downside is that there are few employment laws and housing is very expensive. A £200,000 flat will cost you around £25,000 a year to rent it:eek:

I'm paying 700 odd a month rent to be within walking distance of work in London. Not having to get the tube or wait in the rain while the 5th full bus goes past is worth every penny.

i get paid less than the average for my job, about 19k, but i'm fortunate enough to be given a little bungalow that comes with my job, and pay £25 a week for all my bills (council tax, electricity, water)

I'm def below average, 16k. My first job at the age of 16 paid 8k so in 6 years my salary has doubled. If it doubles again in another 6 years I wouldn't complain!

I did get completely ripped off when I did a stint working in London though. At the time I was on 12k, when I landed the job in London they said they couldn't offer me any more than 14k because 2 grand is typically how much someones salary will rise with a new job?! I started there at the same time as 2 other girls doing the same job, both just out of college (I'd been working for 4 years) who were offered 20k each straight away.

My god I was angry, but alas I needed the job :(

Zone 3 is indeed the place to be, but we pay a bit more. Living with the Mrs, we each pay in just over £600 a month which covers rent in our 2 bed flat, all bills, and food. Not too bad and might stay another year with only £30pm rent incease on the cards, but we think the LL isn't paying her mortgage and might have problems next year.

Im actually sorely tempted to move back home with the parents, living with the GF is ok, but not exactly that fun or easy, plus could commute in 1hr 30mins from near MK and live in a clean, warm house, and save loads.

But it won't be London and will be weird, as returning from Uni was a bit like feeling trapped. Hmm where are those lottery numbers :D
