Did you sort out the brakes in the end? Remember you saying somewhere in this thread that they were pretty dire at Knockhill.

Yeah I got a set of Wilwood 4 pots for the front, and will order a brake bias valve to balance things out. They seem pretty good on the road, but I've not tried them on track yet.

Pretty sure there's not meant to be a hole here??

Ouch. I was going to ask what sort of reliably you were getting but didn't want to jinx you :(.

Are you going to replace it with something rebuilt or just stick with a replacement standard engine. Given how cheap and "easy" it is to replace engines on MX5s I'd be inclined to just keep on dropping in a new lump every time a major component made a bid for freedom through the block!

Yeah I'm planning to fit a set of rods over winter but for now i'll throw the engine in and just get a working car again.

With the rods I'm apparently good for 350whp, which means i'll be able to max out the turbo :)

It's a bit overdue for an update I think. I got the new engine fitted a while ago, but had a few hiccups during the process. I forgot that the later spec engines didn't have an oil feed block off on the hotside of the engine, so had to have a new oil feed made up. I also needed a new starter motor and engine mount because the rod had spun clean through them both and rendered them useless!

I also too the opportunity to remove the power steering and all the related gubbins. I also cleaned all the crap off the subframe. Oh and I added an oil catch can.

Some pics of this:

Better pic of the hole on one side of the engine:

Cleaned subframe and no P/S. I hate the way it feels with the looped lines, so went right ahead and bought a proper manual rack, which I've not got round to fitting yet.

After I got the engine fitted I bought myself a hardtop and sold the soft top, which should add a bit of rigidity to the car. I've not had it painted yet, so looks a bit weird with a silver / blue hardtop and black car. No pics of this.

Now the car is no longer required as a daily driver I started to add lightness all over the car. Not many pics of this, but I'll put some completed pictures up soon. Things like the metal front bumper support has been binned, tow hooks replaced, bonnet catch and cable replaced with bonnet pins, boot lock and cable gone and replaced with boot springs. The plan is to remove a load of weight, and have a clean, business like interior. I also have a brake bias valve waiting to be fitted. I'm going to have the lines to the rear brakes routed into the cabin with the bias valve within reach when driving.

I started to gut the interior yesterday and found out the door used to be green! I went ball deep and gutted the door completely. I have paint for the interior, and plan on making GT3 RS style red strap door pulls. I'm not looking forward to removing the tar **** in the boot, but will try and hit the area with a heat gun and see what happens.

I've completely removed the window mechanism which means they can't go down anymore. I ordered one of Skuzzle's plastic vented quarter windows to get a bit of air into the cabin. I can also remove the windows completely in about 10 seconds, which I can do at the track if it gets too hot in there.

I've weighed all the stuff I've removed, and it's totalled nearly 70kg so far, which doesn't include the soft top. I've still got some air conditioning components to remove from behind the dash. The car should weigh around the 950kg mark right now.

I'll try to keep this a little more updated from now on :o

The rod decided to split in two and make a run for it out the side of the engine. A consequence of too much power I guess.

Super excited to post this ....

Secured a GT3071R for the car.

This is the turbo Flyin Miata are basing their new FM2R kit and recently made 450whp with!

Admittedly that was on a 2.0 stroked engine but it should still be an absolute animal.

The spec of the engine now looks like this:

Supertech 8.6:1 83.5mm pistons
SGI forged rods
ARP Head & Main studs
ACL Race big end and main cap bearings
99 head

I'm delaying the engine going in until I can afford to buy the Boundary Engineering oil pump gears. I can't bloody wait! Woooo :D

Should see well over 400 bhp. The car now weighs 940kg.

Nice, do you know of my mates turbo MX5? Steve Willington? Epic machine

Holy **** it was fast with the previous engine  I was going to post saying that I thought the maximum sort of power/torque on the stock internals for these engines was about 250-270 and that have you taken that into consideration.. I think your further posts answered my question :D

I've never bought a set of new wheels before, so I'm so excited - haha.

Tyres were dispatched today and I've booked the car in the have the arches rolled so should have them fitted ASAP. Can't wait!

Also fitted my Toyota COPs set up (excused the engine bay - That's the old engine due to come out)

The turbo also showed up, and I've sent the engine away to be bored out and have the head skimmed.
