Time to say hello to the new arrivals
I had an absolute mare of a time sourcing these in the UK so decided to order them direct from Watercool (Germany); in a typical showing of German efficiency, I ordered them on Friday and they arrived 5 days later on Tuesday.
So enough spiel...
Presenting 1 x HEATKILLER® GPU-X³ GTX 680 "Hole Edition" Ni-Bl and back plate.
The build quality of both the block and back plate is absolutely flawless; the back plate is polished stainless steel and the GPU block has a stainless plate mounted with a black accented design.
Perfect

Things have got bogged down with having to source components etc unfortunately, oh and that thing called life and not enough hours in a day syndrome doesn't help any either

Time to finish up the faceplate...
The faceplate with the res window slot cut and holes drilled for the anti-vandal switches; I wet sanded the plate with some 600 grit wet and dry paper to give the 3M Di-Noc carbon fibre vinyl a clean surface to adhere to.
I've bonded an additional strip of plasticard (HIPS) to the reverse side of the plate to add some strength and support for the switches.
The Lamptron anti-vandal switches installed (22mm left, 16mm right); the left switch will function as the power on with associated LED ring and the right will function as a reset button/hard disk activity light.
A test fit of the completed panel

The cable routing is straight forward enough in that the only really visible cables will be the 24 pin, an 8 pin and 6 pin for the GPU and the 8 pin ECS.
I've elected to blank out the cable routing holes as you'll see when it's a wired in they're just surplus to requirements; the rubber gromits in my honest opinion were just an eye sore that did absolutely nothing for the internal aesthetics of the case.

One last change
I was looking at this photo yesterday and one thing that stood out like a sore thumb...
The trim I'd placed on the lower edge of the stainless plate just didn't look right
So rather than just edge it I've decided to frame it

Now changing the subject to something hardware related.
All the fans mounted in BackDraft are PWM, the idea is to have them run off a single control unit that reacts autonomously to the temp changes of the CPU; namely when gaming overclocked and benching they run up and down accordingly.
The obvious candidate would be an Aquaero, this was my initial choice however I know the software still isn't the best and further they require temperature probes to be located at key points; so instead I've decided to try out one of these instead -
