Bad Weddings

What really pee's me off is that every party/wedding or gig I've done with my band at a party/wedding, there is always a section for vegans but these didn't allow for us normal people which I thought was really bad.
We cater for them, they don't cater for us :(
it sounds like your experience didn't also cater for normal eaters but you would cater for them.

In my OH's group of friends, there's at least 2 who bring their own food because of various dietary intolerances / requirements. I feel it's like they should have a big sign over their heads saying "Look at me" because it always seems to start a big conversation.
 
I went to one last year which turned rather awkward. The best man had given a perfect speech only to then completely ruin it by getting everyone to raise a glass to the groom and his ex girlfriend's name... The whole venue went silent and he just stood there, mic in hand looking lost and confused, until he finally realised and said the correct name. :o Bride wasn't happy at all and I don't think they've spoken much since.

That is actually a very very valid point.
Its almost frowned upon by vegans to possibly go near/touch meat. Where carnivores just mostly go meh sure here is your vegan options.

One because there's too many people and it just seems like nobody wants to usually mingle/socialise and second, it often just feels like a w***y waving contest (Idk if I'm allow to say that word lol) with how much money people are able to spend and to just show off. I once went to an engagement party that, I kid you not, had more money spent on it than an actual wedding (the wedding I didn't go to but I'm sure the budget must have approached 6 figures).

Thankfully since covid I've found the indian weddings have calmed down a little and gone back to some normalcy (unless they are a family with horrendously stupid money) but yes for some there is a competition element

But for us it's still a very important milestone in life :)

Along similar lines something which has not done wonders for my opinion of people, I was at a wedding event in 2016 where quite a lot of people from my childhood were present, some who had given me a hard time as a kid for being a picky eater with all the "you'll eat what is put on your plate" and starving children in Africa type rubbish, comes to the food being served and they are calling out these people for all the different speciality dietary requirements (OK sure some are for medical reasons but a lot were things like variations of vegan/vegetarian, etc. and other choices/fads)...

They can eat what they want, my eldest is vegan but what i am calling out is that some won't cater for meat eaters where we will cater for them.

If you know it’s going to be vegan, can’t you just take some meat wrapped up in your pocket? You know, like an alcoholic takes a hip flask in?
