have u noticed that THG is the only place which raves on and on about the Hydis 20ms panel? and i think most ppl will tell you that they arent always the most impartial place on the web ;) ignore them, they make a good general point, that quoted times dont matter much, its just a guideline of panel tehcnology......at least you know a 12ms panel is generally going to be up to date

the Sammy 172X is a fantastic TFT if u can find it, as im sure anyone who owns one will tell you. as i've said before, for real use, i doubt very much you could tell any difference in preformance between the 20ms Hydis (not even used anyway), the 16ms AU and the 12ms Sammy panel . Maybe in some tests they might show different, but in real use, inc for games, i doubt you could really tell. if the 12ms panel is so bad then why have manufacturs like Hyundai taken it on to use in the Q17 and the L70S?!?! its a great panel, and so is the 16ms AU. If you're worried, try and see a TFT in action, thats really the only SURE way you could tell if it is going to be suitable for your needs

Thanks very much mate. After looking at the graphs again, look how they've been tweaked to show a more optimum Acer by twiddling the scale on the graph.

Needless to say I've ordered the 172x.

It looks very nice too.

hi ive been looking at getting a tft for a while and really like the look of this
LG_1920P.jpg

its the 19" version but why is it so cheap i want a dvi so the 17" version is no good is the slow 25m responce really that bad for gaming ?

why o why did they produce the 17" version without dvi output

ps does the DVI really make that much difference?

no not on that model at all really..........check the comments on the front page of this thread :) fantastic TFT. DVI doesnt make much of a difference if any on a lot of models, and this one has a superb VGA connection.....def worth considering it imo

benq or samsung??

better samsung 172x or benq 767 12ms??
what about benq?
the samsung is more expensive, about 100 euro respect 767..

thanks..

Panel wise they are going to be very similar in performance

BenQ uses the 12ms AU panel, Samsung 172X uses the Sammy 12ms panel. The 172X has DVI and is a lovely looking model. personally i woudl go with the 172X as its very nice.......

I have just taken delivery of an HP L1925 19" TFT. Got it for a very reasonable £325 inc VAT + Delivery. Still going for £540+VAT at HP Site and most others.
I have plugged it in but haven't had a chance to do any real testing with it. It claims to be a 20ms panel and has a contrast ratio of 500:1 and brightness of 250 nits.

Been trying to find out what type of panel its using, but can't find info anywhare. Thought I would see if anyone knew and also see what any other owners thought of the performance.

I have only briefly run up a DVD and a game on it and it seems excellent so far, but will give it a test over the weekend. I would have waited to get feedback before buyiing, but as the price was so good, thought I would go with the couple of reviews I could find on it, which gave it a thumbs up.

********** NOTE ********************

This is not for playing FPS games. The picture is big and beatiful when static or with slow moving games, but as soon as the action speeds up, the ghosting and blurring is bad. Even with the claimed 20ms access time, this is nowhere near as good at handling fast movement as my old SyncMaster 151P (God I loved that monitor).
I have talked to the company I bought it from and they will give me a refund as it is not fit for purpose. I have now ordered up a Hyundai ImageQuest Q17+, after reading through these pages it seems like a good screen.

Moral of this story - even when offered a good price on something, do your homework. Thanks to Baddass and the other contributers.

LG 1730B or LG 1710B?

Hi, does anyone know the difference between the LG 1730B and the LG 1710B models?

I noticed they are roughly the same price £260 but I think the 1710B model includes DVI cable?

Any info on this would be much appreciated :)

How does the Samsung SM710N compare to the 172X? I know it's a 15ms panel and not 12ms and thta the SM710N is only an analogue connection, but in terms of the general quality of the monitor and attributes as discussed for the 172X, is it any better/worse?

EDIT: Scouring the internet suggests that it used to have a 12ms panel and the one I'm getting may well have because the user thought it had a 12ms panel. Does anyone know anything about that? Is it a case that Samsung aren't getting a high enough yield on the 12ms panels so they've dropped the SM710N down to a 15ms panel and discontinued the 172X in this country? If I recall correctly it's been discontinued because it's considered too specialist for the UK, is that correct? :)

The 172x was the precursor model to the 710T. There have been several threads and supportive information from external sources on the 710T/N's that show them to be 12ms.

The obsession with the 172x came from its styling really, and if you want a truly sublime monitor you should hunt down a continental european 172. The 710t/n kinda just took the functionality and put it into a practical, durable mass market casing.

I previously owned a 710T, but immediately turned it on to find 2 clumped dead RED pixels on the center of the screen. I contacted samsung to find that they didn't consider it a fault unless it was 6+. It was definitely a pain to get it back to the retailer and I had to end up paying postage back plus maybe a 20% restock fee which I'm still waiting on hearing from. Needless to say, I was pretty ****** off, as 2 red dead pixels in the center obviously makes a monitor unusable in anyones eyes.

In saying all that, I wish you luck with yours, though :)

edit: bleh, completely read your 710N as a 710T for some reason, ignore the above but the 710T is definitely a viable alternative.

Well I'm purchasing second hand off a good friend of mine because he's upgrading to a 19", so I know it's in perfect nick, no dead pixels and still has the majority of a 3-year warranty which is for 4 dead pixels no hassle apparently. He thinks it's 12ms and according to some reviews on US sites it has a 12ms panel but the Samsung website now says it's a 15ms. *shrugs*

have a read of this review, i reckon it is prob the 12ms panel as used in the Samsung 172X, havent heard of a Sammy 15ms panel tbh, they have a 16ms made panel. Either way it will be nice anyway :)

I just recieved my L1915S LG Flatron 12ms panel, tested it on UT, UT2k4 and CS Source, no ghosting of any kind that I can see and the brightness and vibrance are amazing compared to my old LCD. If anyone is interested in more info or pics just say and I'll be happy to help
