**Baddass' Ultimate TFT FAQ and Reviews! (20" and Above Models)**

Any idea when the Benq FP71E+ 17" TFT Monitor is due to be released? Am really interested in this monitor but have scoured everywhere and cant find a release date.

cheers

not sure on a release date but should be soon. info on it here

will be added to the front page of this sticky once some users on OcUK have it and have made their opinions on it.

ive just added the L70S+ to the front page as it seems a popular one at the moment, anyone want any other popular ones added too?

Hi,

I'd be grateful if you could help me with my Hyundai ImageQuest Q17+ woes:
When my Q17+ displays dark images (eg whilst playing Doom 3) you can clearly see light patches around the edge of all four sides of the picture. Each patch is 'D' shaped, and they all encroach quite far towards the centre of the screen.

With light coloured images it isn't a problem - there's no evidence of discolouring at all. But with dark images it's a real problem.
I compared it to my 17" Dell TFT and you could really see the difference - the Dell produced a perfect matt-black image whilst the Q17+ was horribly patchy around the sides of the screen.

I've tried viewing the screen from umpteen angles but it doesn't make a difference. Likewise, changing the brightness and colour-saturation has no effect either.

I'm using the DVI cable (connected to a XFX GT6800). Tried using the Analogue cable but it doesn't remove the problem. Also connected the Hyundai to the ATI X800 in the Dell machine - no change there either.

There aren't any powerful magnetic sources near the monitor, so I'm assuming it's broken. What do you think?

Only just purchased this monitor, and aside from the above problem it does produce a superb image - no ghosting at all. Maybe I was given a duff one?!

Cheers

what you're experiencing is common on a lot of TFT's. Its leakage form the backlight which occurs around the edges of the screen as you explain. some TFt's its worse than others. If it is really bad on your Q17, then perhaps return it, esp if it is worse than on your Dell 17inch TFT.

Monitor - A tough decision

Hi, firstly... this is post number 1 for me, so hi to every1. I have been reading the forum for a while and have resolved a lot of problems. However... It has come to the time where i want to lose my 17" CRT and get a 19" TFT and need some help!.

My budget is £300, i have had advice from loads of friends and they all think i'll struggle to find a good(ish) one for that price. Im sure they can be found.

I have been looking for weeks now and have come up with 4, basically im posting because i would like some advice from someone in the know. I will post the links, if anyone could spare a few minutes to take a look, and write a line or two about which they think i should go for. If anyone knows of any other 19" TFT's better than these that i can get for very close to £300 PLEASE let me know where!!!

Oh, i guess i should mention i'll be using the TFT monitor for Internet and Work mainly. I do play games (when i get time) but nothing really high end. It would be nice to have a monitor that can handle something like doom3, i dont mind a slight amount of ghosting.

Regards
Scott

Edit: Removed links, sorry, didnt think/realise

The monitors where...
Viewsonic VG910B
AMW(GNR) M19DW (value for money!)
LG - L1920P
Samsung 19" LCD Syncmaster 910N TCO99

I would be pretty sharpish to remove those links!

Read the forums rules... you are not aloud to post links to competitors sites.

Sorry.

PS Take a look at the Sharp LL-172G-B, thats what ive got!

tbh out of those 4, i like the Lg1920P, but it migth be worth either spending a little more and getting the Viewsonic VX910, or even better, the VX912.

if u dont wanna stretch, then perhaps just consider one of the better 17inch models around, for the same price as a low end 19inch, u could get a high end 17inch (and have the same resolution, and better performance!)

Hyundai ImageQuest L70S+ is by far your best bet imo. see the first page of this thread for info on it, but it's about £217 with VAT from OcUK

read the first page of the thread! there's loads of info on the LG1720B there. but to summarise, they are as good as any 17inch TFT around at the mo really for games and for DVD's./ uses the 16ms AU panel as does a lot of other TFT's

no, again, read the front page of this thread. this is covered in there and from ppl's experiences, the 1720B is a fantastic monitor with a great VGA connection

the 1730B i havent seen much on, but pretty much the same spec as the 1710 and 1720 but with different design

I Think im gonna choose the 1720 mainly because of the looks and just been able to walk into the shop [stamping down on prices...] and lift one of the shelf. Im scared of ordering a screen online incase i get dead pixels or a damage screen. Where as i can just take it back in the car and shout at them :D .

Has anyone seen any reviews on the Viewsonic VG712b ? Plenty of good things written on the vx models but not this one (prob not as good looking) but I really want a good gaming 17" with speakers built in. Any other suggestions welcome, thanks.

what budget are you on?as far as i can see there are realy two budgets fir 172 tft's around 200 for a vga model or around 250-300 for a dvi model. if you are in the first then the Hyundai L70S+
looks great. will be buying one in a couple of weeks
