Bahrain GP 2009 - Race 4/17

So now we are praising cheaters...

Winning no matter what is not a trait I find in the least admirable.

In general, I find the Brits do tend to have that mentality. I, myself, have the mentality that is generally accepted all around the World - shun mediocrity and hail winners. The Brits tend to like losers/underdogs, which is a shame.

Although cheating in itself isnt to be encouraged, the application of using questionable tactics to gain an advantage over the competition shouldnt be ignored.

Senna, Schumacher, Prost and this year - Hamilton, have all used questionable tactics to maximise their points totals. I don't see anything wrong with this...providing they can pull it off (which Senna, Prost and MS have, in the past). To this end, MS, Senna and Prost are regarded by some as the best drivers F1 has ever seen, so it hasnt done them any harm.

Like I said earlier, we shall have to agree to disagree with regards the moralities of partaking in such practises.

I'd much rather have close, clean racing, than see a load of wings go flying tbh.

Wings wont be flying by though. As a driver, you will have to make the judgement call on whom you perform brake-testing on and whether it is worth it. For example, if Sato is behind you, you can almost guarentee that he will slam into you heavily and take you out. If however, you have someone more attentive, like Button, who isn't known for his aggressive driving, you can confidently brake test knowing that there is a good chance that he will back off.

There are so many variables involved and this is why I say, to successfully brake-test someone (which Senna did with Mansell), you have to be high skilled in terms of knowing what you are doing and to whom.

No different to the footballers who constantly dive. You will get "cheaters" in every sport and it happens constantly. If you want to be a multiple and consistent world champion then you have to act like this.

It's one of the reason I like Hamilton and think he will go far, because he has the underhand streak in him. Just wish he would stop portraying himself as whiter than white, as that does annoy me.

Indeed. Pretty much all the top class footballers know how to dive or go down to gain free-kicks/penalties. The lesser players aren't very good in this area and will probably end up getting booked for diving.

Using underhanded tactics in all sports is part of rising to the top of your sport. Its just how it is, whether you like it or not.

There's a difference between dislking winners and disliking cheats.

You don't see anything wrong with cheating, so long as they can get away with it? :(

fair enough that the people who are seen as the best in the sport have used questionable tactics to get the wins/championships but they will always have a black mark against them.

what the FIA needs to do is be consistant with punishments

Its never going to happen otherwise they would have to at least admit to getting it wrong about their darling Shumi in 94

As I said before, at the time I really wasn't sure that he intentionally nailed hill with the car. Hindsight is a beautifull thing :D

Even at the time I remember Hill getting a lot of stick for going for the gap and not waiting to see how it played out.

Hard to believe that was 15 years ago already.

Dude, I dont know how anybody could be unsure of whether or not what MS did was on purpose or not.

To me, it was painstakingly obvious. As far as MS was concerned, Hill was never going to be allowed to win the WDC that year. No matter what.

MS crashes and damages his car, under pressure from a closing Hill.
MS realises his race is done and is leading the WDC by 1pt.
Hill is right behind and is now poised to overtake him.
Hill moves left, MS moves left to block him.
Hill moves right and moves beside MS.
MS moves right to slam into Hill. MS definitely saw Hill and knew exactly what he was doing.

IMO MS still remains the most complete and overall best driver F1 has ever seen. His ability to compile championship winning points totals is unparalleled.

senna never slammed anyone , oh wait hes remembered as the best driver ever but schumacher does the same thing and suddenly hes the biggest cheat ever.

maybe it only counts if you ram a brit
