Bahrain Grand Prix 2010, Sakhir - Race 1/19

Damn, I knew I should have gone for Vettel + Kobayashi/Petrov, instead of Schumacher + Hulkenberg (fantasy F1 :p). MSC had a very strained smile on in front of the cameras... rightly so IMO!

Good to see Vettel on pole - I really like the kid - but I think he will have a tough time holding off the two stallions behind him over the the long runs. Surprised to see Nico think he could put his car on pole. Where did he get that idea from?!

Race tomorrow should be a corker; bring it on :D

If Vettel's single lap pace is indicative of race pace its easy money. That was an impressive gap he pulled.

Ferrari's pace is strong, but they do like Bahrain. It will be interesting to see if they maintain it at the next race.

McLaren were a bit disappointing. I thought we would have been faster, and the controversy of our aero is clearly unfounded.

Still, race pace will be quite a different beast I think this year.

The only thing that would hold Redbull back is if the rumoured 'hard on it's tyres' manifests itself, several times I noted they commented on how grained the RB rears looked, but looks aren't everything of course..

The surprise for me was Massa beating Alonso by a fair chunk, and Scumi not being instantly on the pace, he seems to be only human afterall ;)

Good to see the Lotus team are on the same kind of pace as the Virgin car. Top work from Lotus considering their car is 3 months behind Virgin in terms of overall development.

Echo those comments about Massa. That was a top top performance considering what he has been through. Can see a Ferrari 1-2 tomorrow.

Can't believe there are 2 seconds splitting the top 10!

Yeah, what is that about? And why were they all (except Massa) slower, sometimes much slower, in Q3 in Q2? There's no fuel difference now, and they were all on the faster qualifying soft tyres, so what changed? I can only think some of them switched to a very different race setup than the one they were using during Q1/2, maybe to preserve tyres better? In which case - does the pace of Vettel and Massa only reflect a more compromised race setup?

No surprises there at all for me. Schummi is racing the most competitive drivers since he began his career. Alonso made a mistake and will probably continue to do so, but rely on his consistency to get the better of Massa.

Would be great if Massa wins, which I have a sneaky feeling that he will, somehow. With Vettel's speed that he has shown so far during this weekend, it will be a challenging prospect.

I think I read reports of them suffering on heavy fuel loads because of their tires, but nevertheless the pace the RB6 has shown so far is impressive compared to the rest of the field. Time will tell.

Great stuff from Vettel. RedBull and Vettel are continuing exactly where they left off from in 2009. Well done.

For me, Ferrari do have the better car and during the whole race distance I can only see Alonso or Vettel being victorious (providing there are no extraordinary events). Vettel is very impressive when he leads from the front, but he has behind him, arguably the best driver in F1, in a very good car. Tomorrow's race should be very interesting and at this point, the result is by no means a forgone conclusion.

Schumacher: It doesnt really surprise me that MS is struggling (compared to how he used to race), but I do feel he will outscore Rosberg as the season progresses. MS is the best driver when it comes to putting together points totals and I have no doubt that he will get the better of Rosberg...even though he has been out of the sport for 3 years and is 41 years old.

Hamilton: what can I say. The McLaren is a good car, but I feel it isnt yet as good as the Ferrari or RedBull cars. Of course in Hamilton's hand, the speed deficit, can be overcome. A more realistic indication of the real speed of the McLaren is Button's lap time. JRS - do you still believe Button will finish above Hamilton?

That, and Rosberg is the king of not delivering in the race what he delivers in practice and qualifying; whereas Schumi could always turn a a bad quali into a good race. Still, three years is a long time not to race, and he isn't as young as he used to be.

I still don't think we're in a place to judge; the race tomorrow is going to be a very different affair to today's qualifying. The McLaren's look to me like they've gone to a more race friendly set up than their competitors - whether that pans out in the race, we'll see. As for Hamilton vs. Button - well, Hamilton has always been hard on tyres and that's going to matter more with these no refueling races, whether that'll cost him enough to let a slower driver beat him we'll see.

I think we'll see tomorrow whether the top two who are a fair amount ahead today, suffer more in the race with fuel onboard. Last year one second covered half the grid or so, but they have that lead themselves without fuel, so could be due to the set up.

We've only had one qualifying session! It's waaaay too early to make anything meaningful from that - I'm quite sure that it will take 3-4 races before everyone settles down in their new teams with the new cars and rules. As it stands, tyres and the shifting weight of the car during the race will be unknowns to all the teams and drivers, so it appears you're just doing a bit of friendly bating :)
