Bahrain Grand Prix 2014, Sakhir - Race 3/19

In the post race they did the thing on the nice sky screen. It was wheel on wheel.

I agree the wheel contact pushes him around from the back, almost bumps him round and the wheels lift but again I'm sure the nose then lifts and flips him. Again I don't think it would have happened with just either the wheel or the nose but a combination where the wheel bump lifts him and the nose does the rest.

It doesn't look wheel on wheel with the angles I have seen. Sure the front right left bumps his rear right but at that angle I have never seen a car flipped like that. I sure the combination of the nose had something to do with it.

In the post race they did the thing on the nice sky screen. It was wheel on wheel. there's been plenty of times wheel on wheel has come close to that, and it was a much harder crash than a normal racing one.

This is why I'm looking forward to McLaren next year. As I feel they're doing the same, hence Honda returning late, taking Magnuson over Pérez, get him settled and experienced, Ron back.
I was never expecting McLaren to do that well this year, but wasn't expecting them this poor, especially as the merc engine is so good.

Next years McLaren should be rather interesting they are definitely investing for the future! not sure how well Honda will cope, there not exactly turbo experts! though they have been in the hybrid game for some time now!

gotta feel sorry for Brawn, he's missing out on all the glory that he helped create!

What's making the Merc's so much quicker?

I wouldn't remove driver as a large factor in this. I think one of the things Merc has got down is brake by wire. They've looked rock solid on it since early testing. They still lock up and have issues but I think beyond the engine being good they've got their harvesting set up exceptionally well.

I think they mentioned in the notebook that basically Chilton wasn't even playing with settings in the first half of the race and in the second he started adjusting brake bias and stuff and got way more performance.

I think Hamilton and Rosberg are very technical guys who are potentially making dozens of changes per lap, corner to corner, for the optimum everything. I think it's a combination of things, drivers, drivers suited to heavy technical input throughout the race, raw speed of both drivers.

Williams tyre deg is terrible and I think genuinely that Force India have just always built a car around doing less stops and limping to the end, I don't think they have the experience or tactical awareness to go balls out start to finish. They've been too timid for too long and now have an engine that will likely favour more stops and just being faster. I think Force India will close the gap if they run repeated races at faster pace as the drivers get more use to driving faster but still saving a bit of fuel. I think the biggest step forward from them today came from the jump from a "slow and steady" strategy to a "lets burn some damn rubber" strategy.

everything on that merc is working so well though, tire wear, fuel consumption, efficiency, driver style, synergy. Save a bit more fuel, harvest a bit more kers, save even more fuel while using more kers.

This is why I'm looking forward to McLaren next year. As I feel they're doing the same, hence Honda returning late, taking Magnuson over Pérez, get him settled and experienced, Ron back.

I really don't expect though, outside of Honda knocking one out of the park, to be that good too soon. Merc started big changes and bringing in the right people at least 2.5 years ago, and were still making changes and bringing in people to the start of last season who would all have effected how the 2014 car was developed in the past 2 years. Ron only really just made changes. I think this is an evaluation season for them. Get some people in, see who is good enough who isn't, get rid of some people and target people from other teams or outside the sport to come in and do a job. I can't see it not taking a couple years to rebuild a team and I can't see magical huge changes in competitiveness till the year after that is done. Improvements, sure, but I think we're talking about a 2-3 year project, like Merc, minimum.

Ross must have something planned, I just can't see him happy being out the sport. I hope its just a 8month garden leave. Before joining another team or moving towards fia.

just watched the highlights
good race

hamilton really showing up rosberg there
amusing to see DR outclassing SV . lol
perez brought home a good result
lol ferrari
oh dear maldanado

Did Nico get pushed off the track by Lewis today a bit too much? Looked quite aggressive didn't it?

Just thinking back, didn't Nico call in cos of it at one stage, and at the end of the race he admitted to Pinks that he wanted to hit him in the face lol. He was really angry about Lewis' driving today I think, gonna have to rewatch it.

Border line, hammy had the racing line and there isn't really space for two through there. Any more aggressive, would certainly have been over the line.

Just caught the highlights. What a great race. How on earth did Hamilton manage to hold Rosberg off when he was on the faster tyres?

Lewis was on better tyres, the softs for Rosberg fell off about 3 laps before the end, and Lewis was able to keep going on the mediums. Strange but that's how it unfolded.

I must say though it's great to see that we're not talking about tyres this year, really happy about that! I mean there's some deg but the drivers aren't nursing them like last year - nothing of the sort.

i still think hamilton really put one over on nico there
but much more satisfying was riccardo over vettel..webber must really have been bad!

i also want the fuel limit lifted!!

ON certain parts of tracks you simply have to yield if you aren't ahead at that point. I can't remember precisely who and when but there were a good 4-5 overtakes where the guy behind yielded into similar turns and the guy infront took to the apex. Realistically the times Rosberg went a little off track where more him refusing to yield than Hamilton doing anything wrong and at points they usually go a bit wide anyway.

Some people last year complained about one track allowing people to run wide while at others they punished it, but ultimately every track is different and some corners people go a bit wide and often get a bit wide when fighting another car, it's just the way some corners are.

At one point he called in but it wasn't because of a pushing off the track. from the replay there is a point that Hamilton could be considered to have cut across/turned in to Rosberg, but it around a corner and Rosberg still had plenty of room. They came very close to contact but I think it was more that Rosberg took, considering another car being there, a line significantly away from the curb that was asking for trouble.

Worst tyre to begin with though. It was somehow keeping him behind that meant the tyres fell off with all the fighting. How on earth he kept him behind with a slower tyres and DRS for the first few laps is unbelievable. Some awesome side by side action though.
