Alonso putting pressure on the FIA to try and race on Sunday?

This was last night:

Andrew Benson ‏@andrewbensonf1 2m2 minutes ago

Spain's AS reporting that Alonso asked after P2 today to be allowed to drive and was again refused by the FIA

haha, Herbert yesterday said something along the lines of maybe ALonso should retire and talked about the old days where he/Brundle/others would have fought harder to fight. In the build up to FP3 Alonso walked into frame while Herbert and the woman were talking on camera and said something along the lines of, you're a commentator because you never became a champion. Came across as very salty.

EDIT:-

someone just posted it on reddit... yeah, Alonso not happy with Herbert's comments yesterday.

Think his comments were a bit bitter. Having been a long time Herbert follower since (1984) I found it quite amusing. 1988 and Herbert was on just about everybody's shopping list. With a lot of "experts" claiming Johnny was the most natural British driver since Clark.

I never was around to see Jim Clark, but saw a hell of a lot of Johnny's talents, and imo he was the most exciting driver not in f1. He seemed to have everything required, though always was, even back then just "too nice".

Brands hatch 1988 forever changed the outlook on Johnny's career. I remember quite sadly looking across the scattered mess at Pilgrims drop and thinking if he made it out alive. Watching his progress over the 7 months it dawned on me that his chance to win a World Championship was gone, and the world would never get to see the "real" Johnny Herbert.

Had it not been for that crash with Foitek, then Alonso would not be making that comment imo. As for Herberts comments, it's his opinion & one he is qualified to make. Having hobbled on crutches in Rio whilst still recovering from his injuries, he brought his Benetton home to finish 4th. I also remember Johnny racing at Silverstone in 88 after another race incident that was blamed at the hands of Foitek. Johnny was racing with concussion at Silverstone, when advised that he shouldn't.

Guess that was the very nature of racing back then.

Would love to know the track temps during FP2 and FP3, to then compare against qualifying track temp later (same time of day as FP2 and race iirc).

Wondering if this could explain Jenson's and Ferrari's change of fortunes so far this weekend.

McLaren back down to their "usual" 13th/14th as soon as everyone starts to push a bit... :(

Button will have maybe put down the crack pipe now. He was a bit optimistic after that P2 result!

Edit: Home early today. Looking forward to quali... :|

Hoping for similar shambles, as it's the only way we'll see change.

oh dear, great controversial and wrong comments by Bernie.
it's a shame, even the fans know what's wrong with the sport.
while we wouldn't agree on everything. I'm pretty sure most drivers, fans ect would all agree need to minimise dirty air and minimise effect of dirty air and that's reasonably simple to achieve. and lets not get started on how it's run.

but no, lets not do that, lets keep pilling on more and more silly rules to try and compensate, and then when it fails call all drivers retards.

ffs embrace technology, part of the trouble of watching motorsport at a track is keeping up with what's happening, and then fixing the sport in general.

also the more I hear from Bernie the more he comes across as an extremely intelligent but mentally ill person. Has significant power to influence sport. But instead of that. creates media to keep us interested. it all feels like a big scripted scam for us to talk about as they know merc will walk away with the championships.

so fixated on engines. well create a rule they have to see them to anyone who wants one. but lets be honest engines are far from the biggest issue.

need uncertainty, and the large run offs actually get rid of a lot of that, the radio ban has made it worse this year. NR had brake issues last race but we had no idea till after the race.

It's hillarous that he has the balls to sit there and say that we need to change things but can't because of the agreements in place, when be was the one that put them in place.

And he wants to reduce the ticket prices, but won't reduce the circuit fees to host the race.

Yeah...that helps Bernie...

*sigh*

Anyway... on with a sucky qualifying session.
