I hope Merc don't do that, don't hang out the softs too long then burn out the supersofts in 8 laps and have 4-5 slow laps at the end. Just use up the softs, split the remaining race into two equal length stints and use softs at the end.

Softs will be faster over a stint, supersofts will only be faster for a handful of laps, but for him to make the supersoft stint short enough to not lose out you have to throw away a dozen seconds taking the softs too long.

I hope they are planning for a pitstop in say 4-5 laps.
 
Vettel faster by 0.4 in Secor 1, 0.4s in Sector 2 and he's now up Raikkonen's butt.

Still goes 1.1s faster, but had DRS and slipstream from Raikkonen.

2014-2016 sure, this year, Ferrari look like they are as fast in races, maybe even faster. To win the titles they might need to start making decisions right now about helping one driver over another. Driver championship is what fans focus on, so while constructors is incredibly important, drivers is also. Switching them back wouldn't make a difference in constructors but harm their chances of winning the drivers championship.

But if Hamilton gets ahead of Vettel then no they wouldn't give it back. Vettel isn't closing fast and his tires will be slower at the end, Hamilton will likely be faster over the entire last stint, fast enough to pass and push a 5 second gap.... possibly. I think they are going to try and risk the supersoft and see if it works rahter than do the sensible thing and use the softs over a proper length stint.
 
ham will come out close to bottas, will they release ham again or make him race for the position?

he will need quali laps to try and catch vettel. vettel could be taking too much out of his tires and be slower in the end. I think this is a vettel win though.

I don't see how it would work with 5 seconds penalty. Would still be behind.

May as well run optimum race time.

ill be disappointed if they made bottas move over again, vet is out of touch there's no reason to switch.

if you mean get the lead it wouldnt, but he woud be just a few seconds behind him now. He would be in a far better position than now.
