Honda out qualify Mclaren.
Nothing to raise an eyebrow at same story as last year, merc cant keep the tyre temps under control on the softer tyres on hotter tracks.Interesting, Hamilton 0.1s down on Vettel but on the harder tyre.
Huh, I thought Bottas was useless?
Gasly - that's ******* impressive!
These grid penalties are a joke. Why should Hamilton have been penalised five places because his car had a hydraulic leak?
While I agree that it seems a shame to penalise a driver for something he didn't have much control over, I'm not sure what else they can do. Maybe a loss of constructors' championship points would be fairer?
IIRC Ricciardo is still under contract to Red Bull until the end of 2018, so Mercedes can't get him until then anyway. He would have been a good replacement for Rosberg, but I think the team wanted to experiment with not having the friction of two "Number 1" drivers. The way Rosberg ran out the door with his WDC at the last moment and left Mercedes in the lurch meant that all the good drivers were already in contract (as was Bottas) and deals had to be struck to get anyone with experience. It was lucky for Bottas to get a big opportunity like that, but he's failed to show he's worthy of it except as a subordinate team mate.
