Baldur's Gate

Ok, so I have BG1, TotSC, BG2-SOA, BG2-TOB, and I want to use tutu and the widescreen mod for 1680x1050 rez. Following Streeteh's instructions for installing tutu, at what point do you install the widescreen mod?

I can't find anywhere that actually says when. At a guess though i'd say after you've finished getting tutu running.

Bear in mind that BG was designed to run at 640 x 480, and BG2 at max of 1024 x 768. The high res mod won't scale everything up, it'll make a much larger area of the surroundings visible, and your characters seem really small. Like zooming out in sup com.

It still looks fine though. I play it at 1440x900 windowed (monitor is 1680x1050) and the characters don't seem all that small.

Yeah, that won't bother me though, I'll always prefer sharp bitmap graphics rather than blurred on a tft, even if small.

Just come back from town with a copy of the "4 in 1 boxset of baldurs gate"
Ive installed baldurs gate and tales of the sword coast but cant get it to work. I keep getting a message " this version will only run in canada and united states". Ive installed baldurs gate 2 and throne of bhaal and it works fine.

Ok ive got baldurs gate running properly along with tutu making it look a lot better. The only thing wrong i can see is the main screen it looks a bit funny but aint a problem.
Anyway what class could someone recommend, i was gonna be a monk but they arent on baldur gate 1 only 2.

Iirc tutu should have added the BG2 classes to BG1?

[EDIT] Keep in mind, certain races can't be certain classes. I was devastated when i realized i couldn't be a paladin dwarf :p

oh yeah :p
Monk it is then. I wont actually play this game until late at night when its nice and quiet and i can immerse myself into the story.

Monk is incredibly difficult at low levels as he has no armour to rely on. His resilience and damage grows as he levels up, they got the scaling a bit wrong imo. At level 1 he's a liability, at level 8 he's a walking god.

My favourite is Paladin, they're strong at all levels but not overly strong like a monk. They have the strength of a warrior but are limited in what weapons they can use (they're not allowed to use any ranged weapons at all), in return they get basic healing spells. I forget which one, but one of the subclasses of paladin (cavalier?) is good as he has no negatives aside from the weapon limitations but does bonus damage to demons. In BG2:ToB there's LOTS of demons so they come into their own then.

So while i wait until late tonight i play it could i have some questions:

1:What makes baldurs gate so good (sorry for epic question) am i in for a treat as ive never played them before and know nothing about it.

2:How long does it take to complete?

3: Im 99% sure about being a monk, i was one in NW 1 and 2 so i should be pretty good as a monk on BG, or is this a lot different?

4: If im to be a monk what race is the best for a monk?

Hard to explain really, it's just awesome :p. Best explanation i can give is its the first game (and probably only) where i've felt like i've got complete control over my character, every quest has every outcome you could concieve, it's not 'good or evil', there's many subtle conclusions to every quest that you can achieve. The combat seems incredibly basic at first but once you give it a chance it becomes incredibly addictive. Remember, BG1+2 will provide literally hundreds of hours of entertainment, it puts most modern games to shame in that respect, but with that comes a much longer 'teething' period. You will not instantly love this game, but i implore you to really give it a chance as you will not regret it at all.

2:How long does it take to complete?

As stated above, hundreds of hours. The storyline itself, probably about 100 hours for both games if you rush. If you want to do all the side quests i would not be surprised if you ended up racking up 200-300. Some of the sidequests are just fantastic, the tower quest in the BG2 expansion alone took me around 10 hours iirc and the ending to that quest was something i'll always remember.

3: Im 99% sure about being a monk, i was one in NW 1 and 2 so i should be pretty good as a monk on BG, or is this a lot different?

Couldn't tell you if they're the same, but be warned, at low levels monks are quite weak, but once they level up they become godlike as their evasion is just stupidly high.

4: If im to be a monk what race is the best for a monk?

Can't help you there i'm afraid

Is the paladin quick to level up or anything? It's my first time playing this or any sort of major RPG so I don't want it to be too hard :p

They all level up at around the same pace. I just like the paladin as he's tough as nails, has access to what is arguably the best weapon in the game and has some medium level healing spells to give him that edge. They're just a nice, reliable, simple class to play as.

I've installed BG, BG:TotSC, BG patch 114315, BG2: SoA, BG2: ToB and BG2 patch 26498.....in that order.
Then I downloded EasyTutu ToB and ran it.....

Trouble is, when I access the game it tells me that I'm about to start playing BG2: ToB!?!?!

How can I start playing the 1st BG game first?? (although the intro vid sequence was from the original - does this mean I'm playing the original after all?)

The reason I used the EasyTutu Tob was that the instructions said to use that EasyTutu if you had ToB installed....which I have! I assumed the ToB EasyTutu was backwards compatible to include the original!?!?!?

Any ideas anyone??

Thanks....

When you launch Tutu it launches the ToB proggy as that's the engine it uses. All it's done is import the maps/voice etc etc from BG1 into the BG2 engine as far as i can tell.

Basically, start a new game and create your character. If you start outdoors next to a small castle, you're playing BG1. If you start... not outside, you're in BG2
