Baldur's Gate

If I start with a paladin, does it matter what race I am?

Paladin is restricted to certain races. Basically when you go to select your class you will know if you can be a paladin or not as it'll be greyed out if you picked the wrong race, then you just go back an pick a different race

Hmm, is there any sort of XP bar/progress to level bar I am missing on this? Been years since I played it. Good fun though - Forgot how hard games used to be, the guy at the Friendly Arm Inn absolutely ruined me until I got the guards involved.

Also, I cant select half the resolutions in Tutu, is there any reason for that? Im 1680x1050 native, and in Vista.

It your character screen (c) button I think somewhere on the top right tells you how many XP you need to level up. Same for all characers.

God I;m going to have to play this again now.

I completed BG 1 and all the add ons but never got round to finishing bg 2 (lost my saved games and couldn;t be bothered starting again at the time after putting 100+ hours in)

So while i wait until late tonight i play it could i have some questions:

1:What makes baldurs gate so good (sorry for epic question) am i in for a treat as ive never played them before and know nothing about it.
It's a really well written and cohesive gameworld with some memorable characters and a brilliant engine.

2:How long does it take to complete?
Ages.

4: If im to be a monk what race is the best for a monk?
Probably human.

When you launch Tutu it launches the ToB proggy as that's the engine it uses. All it's done is import the maps/voice etc etc from BG1 into the BG2 engine as far as i can tell.

Basically, start a new game and create your character. If you start outdoors next to a small castle, you're playing BG1. If you start... not outside, you're in BG2

Don't forget to use the TuTu shortcut to play BG, I did when I first tired and couldn't understand why it was showing at 640x480:o

I'd go two handed initially, you can only put two points into a weapon type as a paladin iirc so by the time you level up a bit you'll be able to max out a few different weapon types.

Hmmm, that is strange. All i can say is try again and hope its an isolated incident.

Certainly pour all the weapon points you can into two handed sword; the 'arguably the best' weapon i spoke of earlier is a two handed sword. Iirc the sword is also good at attacking demons so it combined with the cavaliers natural ability gives you a good edge in the later sections of the game.

Can't remember offhand, but in BG2 when you selec a class in character creation I think it tells you what stats are important to the class.
