Ballon d'Or 2011

Robin Van Persie is used to not winning things :p I'm sure he's 'alright' about it!

It was always going to be Messi. I like how he shared it with Xavi in his speech, two best players in the World right now for me.

Funny that Ronaldo didn't turn up same with 'The Special One' or rather, 'The Bitter One' :p

Neither of them turned up because they have a cup game vs Malaga tomorrow, they said. No one from RM turned up apart from Zidane to represent them.

Quite a team of the year:

Iker Casillas; Daniel Alves, Gerard Pique, Sergio Ramos, Nemanja Vidic; Andres Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Xavi; Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney.

No left back? two right backs? (or too many CB's if you consider Ramos plays CB most the time now)

What kind of odd formation are FIFA going for?

.................Casillas
.........Ramos...Vidic...Pique
..............Alonso....Xavi
Alves................................Iniesta
.......Ronaldo..............Rooney
....................Messi

or what?

But yes, other then the oddity at the back for RVP to be overlooked is just shocking.
And if we'r going three at the back, which idiot picked Ramos over Kompany anyway? he's been immense (hurts to say it :( ) over the last year.

I'm a united fan and even I think RVP should have been picked over Rooney. I really hope he stays at Arsenal too, instead of joining one of the Spanish clubs.

Forget RvP over Rooney, Sergio Ramos is in there. Never, ever, ever thought I'd see that and I can't believe it now I have

Looking at who voted for who, Messi won by a country mile.

Still some odd votes in there though, especially from the captains/coaches of various asian teams, like Benzema or Abidal

Is Pique really one of the best CB in the world?

Not even close, yet again he was largely at fault for the Barca goal which will make the title even harder for Barca. He made a bunch of mistakes and was woefully out of place to defend a cross. While you expect the CB's and Puyol was, to be roughly infront of the goal to mark the cross, Pique was about 10 yards beyond the post, marking no one, and a space with no danger, the ball sailed over him then got headed in.

Pique has his moments, and looked potentially something special in his first season there, scoring a couple nice goals and mistakes can be put down to new team, needing to form a partnership and being young. Problem is the mistakes are still there when he's not that young, not new to the team.

Forget RvP over Rooney, Sergio Ramos is in there. Never, ever, ever thought I'd see that and I can't believe it now I have

Yup, guy can't defend, I wouldn't call him violent at all, not like a Pepe or someone, just ridiculously over enthusiastic :p He's a bit of a beast and constantly fouls people, has looked absolutely gash against Barca every time, gets sent off too often, doesn't get sent off as often as he deserves, does look very dangerous from set pieces but, terrible right back, average CB at best.

These lists are always BS though, its "take the 2-3 teams who did the best and pick players from them, no matter how gash they were".

Ramos, Rooney, Vidic, Pique, Xabi and Iniesta shouldn't be in there,

feel sorry for Ronaldo...

44 games 48 goals last season! epic return from someone who is not the main striker. but my vote would have been to Messi for his all round game and the fact that he always shows up for the big matches.

like i said gotta feel for Ronaldo though, as what he has done is quite epic as well.

Yep, Neymar will never reach Messi's levels. Nobody will, he's a one off, not only supreme, but focused and intelligent, and won't turn into a drug addict like Maradona. Messi could win this for the next 5 years, lets face it, who can stop him? Not Ronaldo and certainly not Neymar, Xavi won't now either.

I'd like to see Messi do it in another team in another country. As unbelievably good as he is, he also has two of the other best players in the world Iniesta and Xavi helping him along the way meaning the opposition has more than just Messi to worry about. I'm not saying Real Madrid's other players are poor, but they're not Iniesta or Xavi.

Past winners did it in different countries for different teams. I would love to see Messi do it.
