Ballon d'Or 2011

Well that confirms you know nothing about football :p

I think Alonso and to a lesser extent Rooney are the worst choices. Pique I can understand because he wins everything all the time, despite me not rating him, but Alonso just hollywood passes every time he gets the ball, it's so frustrating to watch.

They guy has been rock solid 1st pick defender at the best National team in the world since the age of 18

Could pull something similar for Xabi and Iniesta probably if i really wanted to but can't be bothered.

Unless you were joking, your post makes no sense.

Here's a hint, Spain weren't the best team in the world when he was 18, he also plays for Real, there you go, not much more needs to be said.

You've come up with stats for one season, Real have played one really difficult game, he was crap in it and they lost. He's deserved more red's and yellows than he gets, that is generally Real/Barca in La liga for you.

Heskey played for England, does that make him one of the best strikers in England? Ricketts, Johnson, etc, etc.

Playing for your national side means the square root of **** all. Players for a minimum of a couple of decades get picked as much on public perception and which team they play for than how good they actually are.

Likewise, he's an offensive right back, who is picked for that more than his defending.

He's been shockingly poor in just about every "el classico" I've seen for the past 4 years, the fact that he can be in a team and not concede goals against 15-16 of the teams in La liga really only talks about how good la liga is.

This all ignores the fact that international football has forever been significantly worse quality than league football and always will be. Is it really a surprise that teams that train together 4-5 times a week and played up to 65-70 games a year are better than teams that train together a dozen times a year and play probably 5-8 games, with an ever changing side, it shouldn't be.

Iniesta is another player who wouldn't be half as loved if he played at a mid table team or a team not winning things. His goal scoring and assist rates aren't particularly good.

This is team of the year, the BEST 11, not the best 5 and 6 half decent to very good players who happen to play in the same teams. Ramos is NOT the best right back in the world, he's not the best CB in the world, so he shouldn't be in the team, its really not that difficult. Many attacking central midfielders have had significantly better years than Iniesta, hence he shouldn't be in the team. Xabi....... again has looked woeful in every big game for Real, and really doesn't do a hell of a lot, best DM in the world, not a chance, best anything, no where near, hence not in the best 11 of the year.

Xavi is unbe-freaking-lievable, he got 4 assists in the last but one game. his passing was world class, playing far better than anyone else in that role anywhere in the world. Iniesta has been "meh" lately, he spent the whole last game not passing forwards, not picking out world class passes, but mostly passing sideways and being very very average, not poor, just not best 11 in the world.

What is the point of naming a best 11 in the world, if people simply look at the best team in the world, pick the few guys who make the massive difference, then throw in half of the rest of the squad for the sake of it.

Iniesta isn't a major reason Barca are as good as they are, he's a part of it, he can play exceptionally well but not particularly often. Spain didn't win the world cup because Ramos was in the team. If purely being part of a team that won the world cup makes him the best right back or CB in the world, then why isn't the team of the year just the Spain or Barca squad? Best team doesn't mean best player in every position, never has, never will.

Was Gary Neville the best right back in the world, he wasn't far off it, but not for natural talent or athleticism, just pure hard work and brilliant reading of the game, Utd won everything while he was there, not at any stage was he the best right back in the world, neither did anyone I think ever make the argument he was.
