Bambu-Labs X1C

pastamatic is printed, Just got to wait on the bearings arriving, So many more colours available in non official. Can not wait to try a few!

anyone bothered about the update?
No tbh, even in the depths of reddit nobody seems actually agreed what specific problems it'll cause. Also, EU consumer laws would protect, and we'll probably get to piggyback off of those

It won't stop me using my X1C, currently I have no idea if it'd ever stop me buying another Bambu printer in the future, but if they're that concerned about security let everyone have a better LAN only option in the same way my Voron does.

Nope, bought into a more closed environment (from a HW perspective)for ease of use and for the same reason just use their software.

Just a hobbyist who need to print things for other hobbies and as long as my p1S can do it, I’ll keep plodding along.

basically blocking 3rd party slicers connecting directly with the printer. you'll have to sneakernet it over.

Well yes the basic part even a cybersecurity novice like me can get the gist. When you go down the rabbithole of people discussing in detail which protocols and what and how it'll be implemented and exactly what will trigger what to happen, there doesn't seem to be consensus.
In any case, bambu put out their own public statement and called bs on the speculation. They said they're not going to stop 3rd party tools and they're working on a solution for print farm owners too.

I'm still happy with my printer (other than bambu spools being secured with tape potentially getting the tape unstuck at the end of the spool and sucked into the extruder). If I ever get good at design and enough folk like my stuff to make enough boost tokens, I'd definitely buy an a1 mini to go alongside.

Not fussed here, i am glad its all boxed in, easily the best printer i have ever owned, not 1 failed print, no tinkering, and it does not need mods like my enders did! . Nothing wrong with Bambu's Slicer either

Am I correct in thinking that even in LAN mode the printer will still require internet? Is that the reason for developer mode being required?
I believe at present in LAN mode you can remain without internet indefinitely. With the upcoming firmware changes and Bambu Connect nobody knows. The person who extracted the encryption key from Bambu Connect said it is only valid for a year which would imply at least annual updates to Bambu Connect would be required. Bambu have now said they will be implementing stronger encryption so anything could happen.

Developer Mode is for people who want to use third party software to control their printer. Things like Orcaslicer*, Panda Touch, Home Assistant and Octoeverywhere will be locked out. People wanting to continue using these will either have to stick with the current firmware or update and use developer mode. Developer mode will however lock you out of cloud integration and the phone app.

* Bambu have talked about Orca retaining limited functionality by using Bambu Connect but Softfever stated today they will not be integrating this into Orca. Linky: https://github.com/SoftFever/OrcaSlicer/pull/8103#issuecomment-2612855023

Thanks, that clears it up as there seems to be conflicting information everywhere. I’m gonna to stay on the older firmware and stick it on LAN mode with Orca.

Same, I have also put it in LAN mode and only using Orca slicer.
That was also my plan until I found Orca under Linux is rather crash happy. By itself I can live with the flakiness but it also freezes when trying to send larger files to the printer (one bug report said ~6MB was the cutoff).

So for the moment I'm using Studio.

whats the advantage of orca over studio? , ive used prusa and cura slicers with my ender, only ever studio on bambu though. I thought they are pretty much forks of same program??

It has a more complete set of printing calibrations built in and I think offers a few more options for support placement and printing overhangs.

The main difference is Orca is not controlled by Bambu Lab. As such if BBL decides to restrict what you can do on your printer or how you interact with it Orca will still provide full functionality. This assumes you do not update you printer firmware to one that locks out Orca/third party integration..

Elegoo PetG Rapid is good as long as you dry it first and then dry it again if you do not use it for a week.I do keep all Filament in 45L Ikea Boxes Sealed with Silica trays when not in use...
But I Bambu when I can get it when not waiting ages for delivery... But Sunlu Pla Plus 2.0 (Colour Choice is not Great) has been good for me. I always dry before use in my Sunlu S4 dryer...

What are you using to seal the Ikea box? I am currently using Dewalt Tstak 2.0 boxes as they have a proper gasket seal.

I use foam sticky on one side, and then I have clips that you have to use a little force to put on and off.
Plus, I have a frame on the bottom of the box. so rolls of filament sit on
All so have silica trays to catch the moisture...
I did look at Dewalt boxes, but the cost of them to Ikea boxes is a lot more cost...

How many spools can you fit in one of those?

I've been using these containers:
/edit The size I bought were 2.5L and ~85mm high. They look to have sold out of these and only have 4L 128mm high and narrower at the bottom. You probably don't want this version.
/edit2 There are 2L ones on amazon that are the correct diameter but on 65mm high. These are not tall enough.
/edit3 I've found one place on ebay with them in stock. The pics show the same made in India Moti brand so I'm pretty sure they are the same. Pick the 2500ml size

Have a look in the comments for pics of them in use.
They feel like large takeaway containers but in practice they work well with repeated openings and closures. I can't say exactly how airtight they are but I squeezed one before closing and after a couple of hours the top and bottom were still concaved in so they are pretty good. I print a desiccant container to go in the centre of each spool.

There are the cereal containers which also seem popular and depending on your preferences have the advantage you can print from them:
There are a number of rollers and desiccant containers for them.
