'Band of Brothers' is just astonishing

It is one of the greatest shows. I have appreciated The Pacific more as I have watched it a few more times. I look forward to masters of the air.
Of the two, I still prefer The Pacific. BOB is mostly about extraordinary people doing extraordinary things in extraordinary circumstances, but there were many such people in WW2. The Pacific shows more of an average experience for a more average front-line soldier of the theatre, and the sort of hell they went through. Having read the books by the various Marines who are depicted, there's a lot more hell than the series shows.

I envy anyone who hasn't got to watch this. The Pacific is OK but no way near as good as this.
The concentration camp scene gets me every time as well as the German higher up guy at the end. I know it wasn't an excuse but you see the German soldiers were just following orders.

"We salute the rank, not the man"

The Pacific does a good job of showing how war impacted them after the war was finished. The guy at the job fair, what skills have you learned? I guess I'm really good with high explosives.

But the most gut renching scene and as good as any in BoB is at the end with the marine out hunting with his dad and breaking down. Heartbreaking.

I have only watched TP once when it was released on DVD, we rented it out via love film (is that Netflix now). I might have to buy it on Bluray and give it ago again. I did enjoy it, but not as much as BoB.

This is what I like about The Pacific too. BoB was brilliantly executed though.

I served with the Royal Tank Regiment (2 RTR), Sabre Squadron, two tours Iraq and one tour of Afghanistan. I can tell you now that the things I saw out there would have a civvy turn into a bawling mess. The things you see on these war shows do a decent job of portraying the horrors of war but the audience will never truly grasp what it's like. I appreciate that they do show it though because it's a true factor of what happens in war. I witnessed one of my friends succumb to an IED while in Iraq, we were on patrol and we passed a sink hole which nearly took a few of us out then literally just after an IED detonated, he was killed instantly. I'm still broken to this today because of that and his wife is now in and out of hospital because of how badly it's affected her mental health. They were childhood sweethearts. I get my bad days, but I keep strong because I have to. It's difficult adjusting civilian life, and I will always find it a struggle but as time has gone I've got my coping mechanisms. Even though how horrific it was, I was lucky enough to have met some amazing people and learnt a lot from it all. In the long run I am glad I served and I would do it all again. I could go on and on but I'll leave it there.

FEAR NAUGHT.

Sounds horrific. :( Hang in there.

My Grandad used to tell me his WW2 stories at bedtime when I used to live with him. The stuff he saw and did were fascinating.

BOB is one the best shows ever made, have the bluray tin box, just need to buy a player.

Loved that scene with Winters telling the Colonel he can keep his side arm, total respect from both sides.

@Stu999 I've still yet to get round to watching it, I have avoided it due mostly as it's a subject matter I'd rather not think about it. I've heard good things about it though in the consensus of the acting and how real and gritty it is.

Oh nice. Looking forward to that. I think it's impossible to not enjoy BoB. I enjoyed The Pacific too, although didn't quite match BoB.

Austin Butler is starring in the new series. I was very impressed with him in Elvis, so will see what he will bring to it.
