Bangernomics

Depends on what price makes a car fall into the "bangernomics" catergory.

1st car was a 306 1.9D bought for £300 driven for 9 months sold for £350. Passed MOT with no issue in that time as well.

2nd was a Clio 1.4RT £650 off ebay. Have to admit i did chuck some money at this one probably spent about a grand on respray, vavler kit and other bits n peices. Got written off by a bus scraping the passenger wing - could have tcut out and taken it for the VIC test and it would have been back on the road without a problem. Got paid out £680 and then sold the car for £220 salvage.

3rd was Corsa 1.5td £50 needing clutch cable and mot. fixed the clutch booked in for mot but then had it stolen and burnt out morning of mot :( this was going to be a perfect bangernomics motor!

4th was Celica ST paid £1600 (deffo not bangernomics) drove it for 8-9 months started thinking about selling and getting something quicker and then one night a drunk uninsured girl drove into the side of it writing it off! took a couple of months of chasing but eventually got a payout £1350 off her mums insurers plus then broke the car and made about £400 off the parts!

5th was a Celica GT paid £650 still got this now but has been laid up in the garage for few weeks with brake problems!

6th is a Shogun bought for £560 from the local auctions! Bought for greenlaning/off road fun but still havent had chance to get it dirty :-(

I think a few of them fall into "bangernomics"!

I'm definitely a bangernomics fan.

£660 Mercedes C-Class. Mine.

£590 Mondeo Mk2. Hers.

Can't complain - Over 250,000 miles between them and both run fine, I dont think I could justify spending 10K on a car, when there's so many other things I prefer to spend money on.

My Specialized Pitch MTB cost £1200 :p

Me?

Could not give 2 craps about what it took to make the car I drive or the "effect" on the environment. I do not care if it cost £100 or £100,000.

I drive it because I:

- Like it
- Wanted it

Any argument any of you can come up against my car choice is moot - I could not care less :p

I suspect you have a rather warped view of the term immaculate because a £107 Meastro will be anything but.

I'll get you some pictures of it :)

EDIT: Heres a note from said sister.....

I feel insulted :p, I know what immaculate is!!!! My £107 pristine car passed a legal non dodgy MOT and everything!, we giving it a service as its an old car and the parts cost us £28, so cheap. Starts every time and is cleanest car in the household (albeit not difficult). Brand new carburetor thats still shiny so take that mr you don't know what immaculate is :p

Immaculate does not mean a smashed in wing with dents and dings over the car :p

I loved that car :D

I've had a handful of bangers in my time, favourite was a Pug 205 XS I paid £50 for to cover the tax (bought from a friend) ran for years and would probably still be running now if the tosspot who serviced it had actually replaced the water pump he'd charged me for.

I have been practising in the art for many years.

My last bangers include : 306 TD, Mk2 Golf GTi, Cav 1.7TD and my current 96 Golf TDi

I can by a car for less than £700 - then sell for £500 depending on the condition of it. I have minimal servicing costs. I quite often hear of people spending 400+ on their service bills and having to go to the same dealer they brought their car for just to keep up their warranty. Its madness in my mind.

I'd rather spend my money on my house and family tbh. Having a "banger" does not make me any less of a man or less successful.

I know quite a few people that have 2 brand new cars and live in some dodgey estate in a 2 bed terrace and are still skint cause their car repayments are well over £300 a month. And for what?! A nice shiney car... no thanks.

four years back i bought a mk3 golf for £950

four years and 80k miles later its still going

its a big like triggers broom, but it costs very little to run, its a huge amount of fun too

You can see the damage that maestro has before even zooming in :o

A cheap, starts first time run around car maybe, but "immaculate" it is not

Maestros weren't even immaculate when delivered brand new so it must have had a lot of work done to it to get it into its current state :)

Immaculate to a girl is diff to us guys me thinks, my wife thinks her car is in excellent condition even though there are loads of scratches and a dented front passenger wing.
