You used to be able to open a bank account by giving a name and having some money to put in it. Nothing more than that. I opened the bank account I still use that way. No ID at all. Things have changed a lot in the last couple of decades.

Same. I'm still using the Halifax account I set up decades ago. Opened it in the Stoke branch, so that tells you how long ago it was. Don't think email was even a thing for the masses back then.

Yeah it does seem to be that everything is done online, I bank with First Direct, you're meant to be able to use HSBC for certain things but nope even the staff their had no clue and told me to go online!
 
It's like one foot in one foot out as well, I actually had to go to a branch the other day to close two accounts I opened online.
I'm more than happy to do everything online seems silly that some stuff is branch only and other stuff online only.

Yeah, i recently opened a Santander credit card, they ballsed up and haven't created it under my current account ID. Apparently to get the accounts merged i need to go into the branch to show some ID. It's so stupid.

Yeah I've got a HTB ISA that I never actually used. If I try and close it online it says I need to go into branch to fill in the form for the government bonus. Surely they can see there's been no money in the account for several years so not likely I want the bonus now.

Whenever I drive past a bank I always see massive queues and wonder what people are queuing up for.
 
Banks are a joke.

I tried to pay a couple of stalker coins into my account at my local branch the other day. Long story short, apparently I'm not welcome back into that branch anymore :confused:
