Been a good day today. Manage to get myself banned from two sub-Reddits and one website, by asking for advice
Me: join site, ask for advice in first post.
Get banned with message, "You have to be a part of the community and contribute before you can post your own questions."
Me: "But I have literally no idea about this subject. I wanted to ask the people here who are the experts. I have literally nothing to contribute!"
Mod: "We're not here to answer your questions. The world does not revolve around you."
It's so far from the internet as it used to be. Where information just flowed. Now it's all gated "communities" where you have to have 100s of posts before you can even make your own thread. And woe betide you if you ask a question without the required "reputation" to do so.
Depressing.
Think I'll just stick to this place and hope you're all experts in everything![]()

Anyone know what happened to Rofflay? Noticed that they have been smacked with the permaban hammer.

Reddit is absolute tosh anyway, I've never understood the appeal. It's just people doing everything they can for karma, and then editing and re-editing posts to say thanks for all the upvotes.
Stick your upvotes on your CV, you'll go far in life![]()

Once stumbled upon the Reddit account of a girl I know IRL - seems like nice enough in person if a little quiet but some of her postings on Reddit are up there with some of the more toxic stuff I've seen online.

Does anyone else often find themselves (anon) browsing some forum or other, and being amazed (horrified) at how many of the posters have "banned" under their forum name?
There are some places (Escapist mag forums for instance), where in a typical thread, 90% of the posters went on to be banned![]()
I had this on reddit too. I get what they're aiming for but you need a balance.Mod: "We're not here to answer your questions. The world does not revolve around you."

Why?. . . I also think there is a need for places where you can post completely anon without needing to sign up. Where people can be almost completely free to do whatever daft crap they like. . . .
Anyone know what happened to Rofflay? Noticed that they have been smacked with the permaban hammer.
Also where do I find the FAQ? I haven't read the rules on here for a while and I can't find them!
Honesly no, unless you know their posting history I have to assume they deserved it. In the places I visit at least people get banned for a reason and its not because the admins are falling ice crystals found in blizzards. Even in reddit groups which are amongst the most toxic places I've ever seen actual bans are rare so not sure where you've been hanging out.

Thanks Maccy. I don't think I've read them since the forum software upgrade then :O

Icarus is that you?I've never read them. Which means I'm either a model citizen or permanently flying very, very close to the sun![]()
