Barcelona v Real Madrid

Anybody really surprised by this? When Barca is in a good day they can pretty much destroy any team in the world. Amazing game btw better than the whole half season of PL.

Some of what you say is true DM in a way....

Real Madrid were made to look poor really by an incredible performance from Barca who started the season slowly and have gained momentum.

The other thing, you say Barca werent really required to defend? Are they ever? Its pretty much accepted they have the ball for around 60-70% of any game, last night they had to defend for 30% of the game.... 30%!

Also depends how you look at 'defending' the entire front 3 and midfield 3 press so hard they get the ball back from a forced error which is surely defending?

The thing is that Barca make most if not all teams look bad and not just Real...sadly for Real last night they were shown up as kids against men...Barca tore them apart and its Mourinho's worst ever loss or so the papers say.

Yes it was ill tempered but my god what an awesome game it was to watch...i really did think that at the start Real would have at least given Barca a run for their money but they just seemed absolutely clueless when they had the ball.

Had a look at the stats last night and it was something like 70% for Barca and 30% for Real...with that sort of percentage you arent going to win games unless your Arsenal and throw away a 2 goal lead:p

Barca are just simply on another planet and thats even with Messi not scoring goals...just so much talent there tbh and not just their starters...their bench looks very very good too.

What an awesome match. Barca were just unbelievable at times, so fluid and creative. Messi...wow...some of this passes and thru balls were just crazy.

Real just didn't show up at all. Defensively they were horrendous! Will be interesting to see how they bounce back again Valencia tho. Jose has some work to do now.

Agree with someone who mentioned above about simulation and harassing the referee, was pretty bad last night but hey ho, it el classico!

I couldnt believe how bad the Real defending was.

As mentioned, they were playing a stupidly high back line - I mean seriously, you are playing Vs messi/xavi/iniesta/villa who are the world's best passers/runners of and on the ball, playing straight into their hands!

Also I would love for Man Utd to play Barca in the Champions League, im sure we would give them a much better game then Real last night!

Playing a back line is one thing but what in my eyes really lost them the game/handed it straight to Barca was the sheer arrogance of each individual player on the Real side. Ronaldo merely typified the side he was on as arrogant and bratty and very early on he showed his face.

Barca are very beatable, Hercules showed that this year and when a team performs as a unit against them Maureen's Inter showed it could be done only last year.

After seeing Ronaldo push Pep I really hoped Barca would totally batter Real just to see the look on their respective faces at the end, Mourinhos face was just the icing on the cake (Don't have anything against him he was just *very* unhappy).

Yea, the same way they absolutely mullered Man Utd in the final?
The only way Man Utd would even get near Barcelona is by doing what they did in the semi-finals in 2008, Setting up defensively and hoping for a wonder goal.

Total football, Only one team can say this.
Against the very best and against the very worst, They don't change the way they play.
You must have to go back a long time to even remember Barcelona playing defensive, This is what sets them apart from any other team in world football.

They don't always get it right, Inter played defensively and won, Man United played defensively and won. Real Madrid came to play..and look what happened.

You DON'T play football with Barcelona, No team on the planet can. You either adopt negative tactics and come through or you open up and take a beating.

I felt sorry for Abidal, He was the only player who consistently lost posession on the team, Messi without even getting goals was outstanding.
This was all about Xavi though, I'll be amazed if he doesn't win the BPITW.
Outstanding in Barcelona's success the past year, Pivotal figure in Spain's world cup winning team.

Is there another midfielder on the planet who is as good as Xavi?

Iniesta? In many ways those two come as a package. They just seem to know exactly what the other is doing, which I guess is one of the plus points of growing up together through the academy.
