Baroness Thatcher has died.

What I love about the photo is that George looks like he's about to die of misery whilst Mrs. Cameron is grinning her head off. Maybe she's thinking Dave will finally think about her whilst they bump uglies now Maggie is dead?

No I didn't? Plenty of images are posted without the belief of things being truthful without comment or is this some form of rule I am not aware of, I mean before you even posted that I had stated I was not under the impression it was not true and well I doubt you were aiming it at anyone else.

Continuing to use the lies when questioned on it and being fully aware they are lies is taking part for me, something could have been done.

keep it to the football forum eh?

you fit in much better there.

She was an ex-Head of State and the longest serving Prime Minister for well over a century. Someone earlier suggested it was because of the Falklands conflict but I think it's as simple a point as being the ex-Head of State.

On a sliding scale from being buried in a paupers grave to a full state funeral it was definitely closer to one end of the spectrum and that wasn't the end where someone is buried in an unmarked grave. You can say there are distinctions from a full state funeral and even argue that some of them are important distinctions but to say it's not even close is a bit of a stretch, if you were ranking them it's one step down.
Perhaps I'm making a big faux pas here but Thatcher was never head of state... She was a prime minister who aside from your list, was also the first female prime minister of this country.

I think thats the point, it was not a state funeral, but only by a whisker. the queen in attendance for instance, only for churchill and thatcher.

Edit - ah i see, it might just be the confusion with the head of state in the american sense and over here.

Careful, you aren't allowed to say things like that. ;)
Yeah, because it's a stupid thing to believe.

Putting aside the fact that crowds don't take collective decisions (so the idea that anyone in a crowd is to blame for a surge is ridiculous), the 'thing' with Hillsborough is that the police, in an attempt to duck responsibility for their disastrous crowd control, pulled out every stop to smear the dead.

Well I think it's time for me to comment without holding back now that she's no longer on this earth.

I find the fact that people decided to protest at the funeral today to be a very disrespectful thing to do.

Even though I wasn't around during her tenure, I still dislike the woman as she pretty much killed off the same political breed that I believe in. She also ruined my area and I grew up in the aftermath of her decisions.

However I respect her as she was human, we all die - it's something everyone has in common and should bring us closer together - not split us apart.

I wore red today, but I didn't speak bad of her name once - others should have done the same.

My apologies, you're right in that Mrs Thatcher wasn't head of state, I was being a bit careless with the term. I should correctly have called her the ex-head of government. Although the distinction in operation between prime minister as head of government and head of state is not one that is likely to make a vast difference to how they are perceived.

If that's the case, are all ex-PM's going to get such a send off?

What exactly is the criterion?

I was largely ambivalent to the funeral, up until the sermon mentioned 'Theory of moral sentiments' and started to excuse her out and out anti-social drivel.

Things were nearly thrown at the TV. I'd have had far more respect for proceedings had they not tried to re-write history.

Hah.

That wont happen on anyone's watch.

Hopefully by the time his retribution comes Scotland will have indicted him as a war criminal.

Nor does the nation need to cover the funeral costs for multi-millionaires. It really is beyond the pale as the most vulnerable in society come under sustained attack from the same politik.

God I'm sick of listening to poor northerners moaning in ugly accents. Your industries were dead or dying for reasons other than Thatcher; she did what had to be done. You'd could always have re-skilled? Bloody commies thinking the world owes them a living.

Whoever is deemed worthy? I don't know the precise criteria but whatever one personally thought of Mrs Thatcher she did have some notable achievements. I rather hope it's not the start of a trend but we'll have to wait and see when the next ex-PM shuffles off this mortal coil.

There has to be something more tangible than this. She did have notable achievements but to justify such extravagant pomp and ceremony?

I suppose we will, but I suspect motivation in the scale of this could lay with ulterior motives such as the poor performance of the Coalition and Conservatives in general. Again, because of the arbitrary nature of these decisions it can be hard to gauge.

That isn't transparent.

Absolutely right - good enough to fight in our many wars but not share in the good fortunes of the country. Who do these folk think they are eh?

Go hang your head in shame Robbie G.
