Baroness Thatcher has died.

I never quite get the hilsbourgh thing, everything seems very conflicted about what actually happened.

the jist I get from is it lots of fans tried to get in to a game they didn't have tickets for, started getting crushed at the gates so the police opened them (rather stupidly thinking this would give them.more space once inside) and this then led to a surge which crushed lots of fans against the fences around the pitch (there because of fails invasions iirc).

no offenses but surely most of the blame lies with the people trying to get onto an event they shouldn't have been at?

I don't see how it is the same, they are celebrating cowardly attacks on I imagine what was 99% innocent people who had done nothing wrong, bin laden had orchestrated the deaths of 1000's and finally held accountable for what he had done, albeit death was far too kind a way for him to go, I have no qualms if people wanted to celebrate.

Yes, our society is not better than that, I mean that'd be pretty low on the list of things our society could do with sorting out or having proper behaviour towards whatever you may deem that to be

and the states and others had been doing the same to them for ages. its not like he just decided to do it ' for a laugh '

Why do people seem to think that it was Thatcher that came up with every single decision that was made whilst she was in power? I'm pretty sure she just followed her policy makers, party decision and party advisers on what to do?

Careful, you aren't allowed to say things like that. ;)

Regardless of blame on those trying to get in that shouldn't have, the relevant authorities did the wrong things to control the situation. There were then many lies about the whole thing after, with evidence suggesting the cover-up went all the way to the top.

There isn't just one party to blame nor at fault.

She was pretty hands on in key policies. She apparently respected and welcomed debate from others though. If there was a good argument for it, she would amend her point of view although I expect it would be a robust conversation.

I do not think that everything that went on was directed through her, there would not be enough hours in the day.The main economic, industrial and international policy decisions were probably key areas for her interest.

Even the often derided Wikipedia could have cleared up the confusion for you : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hillsborough_Tragedy

Surprised at the lack of protestors - is it dole day today?

Hopefully now the funeral is over we won't have to listen to whining, selfish northerners any more...

RIP.

right do u think the BBC et al can stop the sycophantic Thatcher reporting and we can actually report things that matter, unlike the government spanking £10m on a stupid funeral for another politician who had her nose in the money bag like the rest of them!

in other news unemployment is up!

totally agree, what waste of our money

Yea but I mean it might as well been the amount of money put into not to mention the military honours, with a church service at St Paul's Cathedral.

I don't really understand why she is beening given military honours though.

She was an ex-Head of State and the longest serving Prime Minister for well over a century. Someone earlier suggested it was because of the Falklands conflict but I think it's as simple a point as being the ex-Head of State.

It was no where near close to a state funeral.

On a sliding scale from being buried in a paupers grave to a full state funeral it was definitely closer to one end of the spectrum and that wasn't the end where someone is buried in an unmarked grave. You can say there are distinctions from a full state funeral and even argue that some of them are important distinctions but to say it's not even close is a bit of a stretch, if you were ranking them it's one step down.
