Baroness Thatcher has died.

Can't believe there is a party in George Sq Glasgow to celebrate her death, really embarrassing.

There's one in Brixton too apparently. Very embarrassing, whatever peoples views are on her. I support peoples right to express their opinions but it's frankly shameful.

I was 21 when she left number 10 and while I can understand some peoples views on her, I personally think she did a lot of good for the country. Not everything she did was right but overall she did what needed to be done and did it out of conviction.

Very embarrassing indeed, Glasgow is a great city but there are a lot of idiots here.

EDIT: By the looks of the George Sq webcam the crowd is now gone, thankfully.

I'll give you more facts.
When I left school in 1974 it was a certainty that having in excess of 20 family members at the Michelin (I come from a very large ***** family) I would get an Apprenticeship but I wouldn't get an Apprenticeship at a pit because I had no family members at any so it was useless trying.

Did you try?

It isn't mistruth from the Stoke On Trent area, you have your experiences where you live and I have mine and I shared my life with many miners who agreed years on and blamed Scargill (obviously some don't).
I worked at The Michelin Tyre Company which was also a 'closed shop' to family members and then I went to Creda/Hotpoint which was a bit more relaxed but if you had family you definitely got on. Stoke On Trent's miners were no different but the difference was the ***Millionaires wages*** (3 asterisks per side to exaggerate even more) which they didn't deserve next to the other working men they shared their lives with.
Yes they had their own estates - Colville (spelling intentional) was a dead giveaway and basically made up of Geordie miners as was Lundy estate.

Spot on. I was on the Michelin myself, and had friends who worked the mines (mainly Hem Heath).

Yeah, totally shameful to celebrate someone's death. I was totally disgusted with the Americans when they celebrated Osama Bin Ladens death. I may not have particularly agreed with what he did, but he should have been given a dignified burial and respected as a corpse. I hated Jade Goody too but damn did I cry my eyes out for her when she went into the ground.

Is there anyone who lives North or West of Watford who thinks she was alright?

Hmm...maybe. She's the Marmite PM - nobody would call her bland. Or maybe the girl from the nursery rhyme - when she was good she was very, very good but when she was bad she was horrid.

I wouldn't have voted for her as PM, but I'd have bought a used car from her. Unlike many politicians, she was honest and upfront about what she thought and what she was going to do. She might stab you in the face, but she wouldn't stab you in the back.

Dimple has always come across a bit envious when it comes to people being more successful than himself. ;)

I'm not biting because I've never had a problem with people earning more than me because usually with more wages comes more responsibility and since I'm not clever enough I'll leave that to others.
Also before you attack me for having a go at Miners earning 4x to 5x as much as the next working man read the words I wrote very carefully in my posts because I know you're not too good at reading and taking it in properly.
I've always been of the opinion that if somebody can get away with it then good on them.

Did you try?

No because we knew it was pointless.
It's the way it was.

Spot on. I was on the Michelin myself, and had friends who worked the mines (mainly Hem Heath).

You were there.
That's four of us from Stoke now who agree.

I'm a northerner from one of the poorest towns in Lancashire and i've got great admiration for the lady.
Maybe its because the town i grew up in already had its industry obliterated from cheap imports (Cotton). Maggy didnt kill our industry, she didnt help it either but we were never going to compete with countrys that had there workforces made up of essentially slaves.
She knew this and knew if we were going to continue to be a world power then we would have to change our business plan.
Our heavy industrys were setup on victorian ideals that simply couldnt compete with modern factorys. If theres any blame its the cheap/fast transport links to the far east.

Love her or hate here there is no denying our country is a far better place thanks to her input.

We believe you Dimple don't worry.

Don't worry, the majority of us believe your personal experiences, it's just that the two that don't are particularly vocal about it.

Do you ACTUALLY 100% believe

  • No one got employed in a mine unless part of a family (lol)
  • That miners had their own estates and didn't like others coming in?

The content of these posts smacks totally of pub talk, local biased views, in fact the poster says he didn't even try to get a job, I will accept that in ALL areas sometimes family members get people in to jobs, happens all the time, nothing special. The "greedy miners" were no better or no worse, seriously what a nasty thing to say.

In addition, the content of the posts bizarrely offer no real contribution of worth, just odd really.

There's a party going on in George Square in Glasgow just now, speakers for the music and all.

Crap

Been in and out the square all day and sitting here outside the millennium hotel posting this and there's not a thing going on

RIP.. She certainly polarised opinion and many hated her, but things weren't too good before she got in. Something had to change!

100%? No, but it's definitely a viable source considering a few people have confirmed his experiences, and is a far stronger source than you claiming everything he says is wrong despite not being from anywhere near Stoke.

"Greedy miners" has obviously got you upset enough to lose your powers of reasoned thought and to consider that there could possibly be some truth in what he's saying.

You don't vote for a PM. You vote for your local constituency MP.

The political party or coalition of parties with the most seats in the House of Commons nominates a leader to the Monarch who appoints the Prime Minister.
