Batman Arkham City - Thread

Higher average doesn't necessarily tell you which of the two games the reviewer prefers, but I'm not one of these to say all reviews are bs so it does at least tell you it's a very good game. Arkham Asylum does however have a higher user score over more reviews, but to be fair if it's not accurate to use the official reviews then it's no more accurate to use the user reviews to prove it the other way.

Time will tell obviously, but without knowing the opinion of every single person all anyone can do is use a sample to gauge peoples thoughts on the game vs AA. The consoles thread speaks for itself I think, and from the podcasts I listen to, I've heard one guy say they prefer it to Arkham Asylum.

no one said anything was lacking from AA, they said stuff from AA was missing from AC making AC a game not as good as AA :) If that makes sense :S

Haha in some ways it does! :p

But I think you could still describe it the way I did that AC was lacking stuff from AA, if that makes sense! ¬¬

Well as long as the game is as good and enjoyable as AA for me then I am happy.

I think the main problem is that we were all expecting AA to be poor just like every other superhero type of game and considering all the batman games before were just terrible (although I did enjoy batman begins :o), however this was not the case and blew us all away with just how surprisingly good it was and therefore eidos set the bar extremely high to try and top it with the new game AC.

The more focused Metroid style of the first game is far superior to the open world of AC, not only at concept level but I didn't think it was executed particularly well in AC.

what do you mean by concept level? in AC can you access all areas from the very start? do they not push in the right direction enough in the open world of the sequel?

As in the very idea of changing it to an open world had me slightly worried about how AC would turn out, but then I've always been happy with tightly focused linear experiences. It's not an easy thing to explain, as an open world game it doesn't do much wrong when you look at what other games in the genre are doing. GTA, Assassin's Creed etc, those are great games and largely because of the open world. But I didn't play Arkham City with those in mind, I played it with how much I enjoyed Arkham Asylum in mind. That's the bar they were going for, and that's why switching to an open world meant it was always going to be difficult to do this.

None of the complaints I have make it a bad game nor do they mean you will feel the same way about it. The reason I'm expecting people to be disappointed is because I'm seing the same complaints with the game come up over and over again. To be fair you can find people that liked it more than AA, or at the very least enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn't disagree too strongly with anyone that felt that way, but that's not the general trend I've seen. Hopefully the pc crowd will play it and enjoy it as much if not more than AA. How much people enjoy all the side missions should be a big factor in this, I found almost all of it completely uninteresting which made it about a 4-5 hour game.

It's less than a week away so best to just wait and see for yourself because the more I go on about it the more it's going to seem like I'm hating on the game. To put it simply I enjoyed the game and do think it is a very good game, I just don't think it holds a candle to AA.

Well if it is still in your game list try copy and pasting this into your web browser:

steam://install/57400

The game is now downloading, its just shy of 17 gig so better to get it done now if your connection isn't the best in the world.. like mine :p

I got mine with a Nvidia voucher didn't buy it through steam, dunno why yours has disappeared from your list.

What's the best place to get this from... as I'll undercut it by £5. I bought this from GMG a couple of months ago with PayPal and now can't refund it but got an NVidia code for it with my 560Ti so was wondering if anyone still needed to purchase it for a good price?
