Batman Arkham City - Thread

Gave this go with a moody version off a mate and after the first fight where you play as catwoman it would die a death during the following cutscene (bruce drugged and then entering arkham)

Would a legit copy stop these woes or does it still run like a P.O.S?

Tempted by the GOTY edition off steam but don't want to download something that's never going to run...

It has two patches that fixes pretty much all the crashes, DX11 is still a pig but it looks amazing in DX9 anyway so not a big deal.

Epic fail on the GOTY version. Let me explain I have Batman AA retail and a AA GOTY edition. So on GFWL I have two Batman AA games one is just Batman AA and the other is called Batman AA GOTY. So I can play the game twice and get all the achievements. I have Batman AC retail and I just got AC GOTY the GOTY does not add another entry into GFWL it just uses the bog standard retail login........ Like they forget to add GOTY to the name of the game on GFWL so it makes a new entry.

But AC retail and GOTY show as one game....

Rockteady never forgot what happened was MS allowed Rocksteady to have a Arkham Asylum GOTY LIVE Achievements entry as Arkham Asylum GOTY used the newer UT3 engine which supported 3D so it was a new game as far as MS were concerned so they did the QA pass on the GOTY LIVE Achievements aspect (which costs time/money apparently).

With Arkham City GOTY it used the exact same UT3 game engine so only repackaged all the patches & DLC into the same release (3 x DVD's on PC retail version or all content included in 1 download on Steam GOTY).

On the Rocksteady forums when GOTY was announced there was a lot of talk about this & Sarah May said it was because MS would not allow a different Achievements list as it used the same UT3 version :(

Ah thanks for the info m8, that is really gay on M$'s part  Seems I have a spare GFWL key then as I already got all the DLC for my retail version LOL. I just figured it would add a new game like AA did, meh.

Cheers m8

Keep the key as Securom activation will most likely not work on the GOTY as WB Games link the GFWL key to Securom activation!

You are right once again, I had to enter it while it was installing :) I forgot about that
Rocksteady are very good at ensuring the right key matches the content via Securom (but cannot give us decent DX11 + PhysX FPS  ).

Like you I already own the retail & all DLC but bought the Steam GOTY for £4.99 last week to avoid using a no DVD patch & get all the DLC from 1 place (if you use a no DVD patch it hoses your install so you lose an activation with Securom  that's what happened to me a while ago :( ).

Can someone confirm for me if this is meant to happen?

When you come out of Wonder City and back outside after fighting R'as al Ghoul, the music in my game that accompanies the outdoor scenes is completely none existent, and no longer plays.

Would be helpful if someone could tell me if their game does this too. Seems to be the same when you complete it too, and are in free roam mode picking up the riddler trophies. No music at all.

Having fun playing this, but was a bit disappointed by some of the laziness in the early cutscenes -

When you rescue Catwoman from Two Face, she gets her hands free and then just jumps up and away from the acid tank, but it doesn't explain how she was able to untie her feet from all that rope so quickly. Then when Batman grabs Two Face with his grappling gun, as he reels him in he is suddenly all tied around his body and feet with rope. Looks like they just took shortcuts to get the story moving forward and it's nonsensical.

No doubt a fantastic game but nowhere near as good as the first.

I find with a lot of sequels the core experience of the game is diluted as the developers try to do too much with the follow up. The story has no doubt suffered with the open world design and the fact that Rocksteady have shoehorned in as many super villains as possible. I'm not overly fond of the cat woman sections either.

Didn't notice any of the 'mistakes' or unexplained occurrences pointed out by the previous poster but I'm playing a game about a man romping around in a bat suit, fighting often ridiculous looking super villains, I can forgive a few unanswered questions or continuation errors.

No crashing or performance issues on my system, 2500k/HD6870 @1080p.

At first I didn't like the open world design either, but after a hour of playing, I absolutely loved it. I personally thought the way they implemented some of the main villains into the story line was very well done, loved the way they all had their own areas of the city and it was styled to suit their character.

The story wasn't as good as the first, but still very good and much better than nearly every other game and most of your Hollywood films :p :o, it has a Nolan feel/take to it.

Wasn't overly fussed about the catwoman parts either but it was nice addition to break the game up a bit.

I long for more games like BAC and BAA to come out, only games that I have truly enjoyed/loved every minute of.

Don't get me wrong, I haven't put my controller down since starting the game. It's very good, in fact one of the best, but I preferred the first as it was a more focused experience.

The story in AA was better and the way the game progressed was very Metroid/Zelda-esque, unlocking new gadgets to access new areas. Obviously there is an essence of that in AC but I don't feel it's to the same extent, I think they've gone a little OTT with the amount of gadgets too.

It's a pet hate I have with a lot of game's sequels, devs try to go bigger and better and often it detracts from what made the original so good.

First game in a long time I have actually bothered to complete!

It is fantastic game story like is amazing shame it's a little short though.. All cat women done aswell. Still have re play value though.

Will be starting this later, completed Hitman so I'm free to get stuck in as I hate having half completed games on my list, didn't really give BAA a chance when I played it on Xbox.

Really enjoying this actually, I need to turn down msaa from max as I get a slight drops from time to time but I'm playing at 1440p so that should be expected.

Finished Hitman last night, sorry Bastion but time to start on this :)

Extreme settings with DX11 in the benchmark, minimum of 58fps with my 2GB 7850.

Running physX from my i5 760 is a game killer.

Batman Arkham City Help!

I've started played B:AC for the second time, and I've got the following error more than once. I thought it was settings related, so I've toned them down, but it's still happening!

I would also like to point out, that when playing FarCry 3, the game would load, work fine for a while, then the screen would go black and windowed, before back to full screen and working fine. The frame rates appear to slow in this instance and I'd have to save, close & restart, the it'll be fine.
